Navigator News
Box Top Competition - Prizes awarded to the top three 1st period classes who collect the most box tops. The contest will run from Sept 15 - Oct. 16. The winning class will be announced the week we return from fall break. Every 1000 box tops earns our school $100!
Yankee Candle Fundraiser - Encourage your child to sell Yankee Candle products for a chance to earn some great prizes like a limo ride or a $100 VISA gift card! A portion of the proceeds benefit DATA's ASB.
School Site Council (SSC) - This year DATA's SSC is in need of 3 parents and 3 students. SSC is a decision-making group that meets 6-7 times a year. Meetings are held on Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. On the SSC, we review, monitor, and make suggestions about school achievement, programs and budgets. Our SSC is made up of 3 parents/community members, 3 students, and 6 school staff members, including the principal. Members are elected by their peers (school staff elect school staff, parents elect parents, students elect students, etc.). Members’ terms are usually 2 years. This is an important position, and we need your participation. Please consider joining the 2015-2016 SSC to discuss and give input about our school! If interested, contact the school at 641-5165 or email hector.guerrero@venturausd.org to be placed on the election ballot. Parent ballots will go home with students on Thursday, September 24.Tentative 2015-2016 SSC meeting dates: October 8, October 29, November 19, December 3, February 11, April 21, May TBD.
PTSA "Drop in the Bucket" campaign - Tired of Fundraising? So are we! That is why we have decided to do a donation drive instead. If every family at DATA contributed $10 to PTSA, we wouldn't have to do another fundraiser all year. Flyers are available on the office, or you can print one from at https://www.facebook.com/dataschool. Please have donations and completed flyers in the office as soon as possible.
PTSA's Student Representatives Needed - Now that DATA has a PTSA, we need students to let us know what interests them. We are looking for a student representative from each grade. PTSA meetings are the first Tuesday of every month. Applications are available in the office or at https://www.facebook.com/dataschool.
PTSA's Art Contest - All students are eligible to enter. This year's theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly". October 16th is the deadline for artwork (dance/choreography, literature, photography, film production, music composition and visual arts). October 29th is the award program that determines which projects will represent DATA in the Ventura Council PTA competition, which includes all VUSD. For more information, please go to www.pta.org/programs/ArtsinEducation.cfm
PTSA's Art Committee – Encourage your 6th, 7th and 8th grade student to be part of the PTSA Art Committee. Students interested in helping to organize the event should talk to Ms. Erin in the office.
BHS Jr. Cheer Camp – Camp for Jr. Bulldogs will be September 26th and 27th, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Camp attendees will perform during the Buena vs. Rio Mesa game on October 2nd. Netbook Case Straps – Straps are available in the library, and they make carrying the cases much easier. For the first time ever, students will be allowed to decorate their case straps.
