All you need to know about the trumpet

History

This particular instrument has had a very long and rich history. People believe that the trumpet was in fact used as a signalling tool in Ancient Egypt, Greece and the Near East. When the Romantic period hit, the trumpet was apparently in different forms of Art such as literature and music.


There are four different types of trumpets such as the Bb trumpet, Cornet, Piccolo trumpet and Flugelhorn

The flugelhorn appears mainly in jazz, brass band music and popular music. But occasionally it is used in orchestra music.


Famous People who have played the trumpet

Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong, was born on August 4, 1901, in New Orleans, Louisiana. An all-star virtuoso, he came to be well know in the 1920s, influencing countless musicians with both his bold trumpet style and unique vocals. Armstrong's charismatic stage presence impressed not only the jazz world but all of popular music. He recorded several songs throughout his career, his known for songs like "Star Dust", Louis Armstrong was well known for the songs "La Via En Rose" and "What a Wonderful World." Armstrong died at his home in Queens, New York, on July 6, 1971.



Nathaniel Adderley

Nathaniel Adderley was born in 1931 November 25th and took up trumpet as a teenager in 1946. He began playing in local bands in Florida, and made what became a career long switch to the smaller cornet in 1950. He was an American jazz cornet and trumpet player who played in the hard bop and soul jazz genres.


How to use the trumpet.

You need to put your lips together very tight and get a higher sounding buzz. It will take practice to get the buzzing of your lips. Practice this with just your mouth, then use a mouthpiece to practice with. Next, you need to try different breathing exercises by taking a big breath in and let it come down low. Don't fill the top of your lungs, fill down low in your body where your diaphragm is. Also, make sure you have good posture while you play, this will help you play better so you have more air control.


Which Family does the trumpet belong to

The trumpet belongs in the brass family it is the highest instrument in the family. Trumpets are one of the oldest instruments in the world dating back to at least 1500 bc.
