I cannot believe that we have now completed our third week of school for 22-23!
It has been great seeing all the students back in action. LAHS teachers and club sponsors have been working hard creating opportunities for students to get involved in school.
Homecoming week is coming up. Lots of information has been going out on Facebook. Encourage your student(s) to find a club and get involved in school activities and school pride. Students that participate in clubs and leadership activities leave high school with a better experience and education. LAHS has lots to choose from.
-Check out Esports with Mr. Kirkpatrick as the head coach.
If students don't know yet, schedule changes are done, completed and we are not changing any more unless it is approved by admin, teacher and me. This late in the semester, depending on the change, the student could lose credit for that hour.
Have a great and safe long weekend.
Mrs. Harp
**Make sure you know when our remote Fridays are. Teachers will be reminding the students as they come closer.
Reminder/update on attendance/tardy policies
Any and all absences (including doctors notes) are not excused by the State Department of Education, EXCEPT school activities. When the district does the mandated state reports, the district does get dinged for all absences.
NOTE: There will no longer be an absence code for DVAP (Distance Learning Absent/Present). The only approved "distant learning" days are the ones noted on the 22-23 school calendar as Remote Fridays (linked above).
OR
COVID absences: The school must be provided with a medical/doctor note of a positive test OR with a school COVID test. Only in these two circumstances will the DVAP code be used and excused.
****No home tests or exposures will be given a DVAP or be excused.
IF your child will not be at school for whatever reason, please notify Ms. Brittany Doiron @ 405-329-1612 or brittany.doiron@littleaxeps.org.
IF your child is going to a medical appointment, provide the school (Ms. Doiron) with a doctors note. This is solely for transcript credit purposes.
For high school only explanation: Grade level and graduation are based on 'credits'. We must be able to justify to the state department 'why' we gave a student a grade instead of a "NC" (No Credit) due to attendance on their transcript. The only way we can justify this is if we have medical notes, documentation of a funeral, etc. Although, these absences still must be within a reasonable amount for the semester.
State law states (and this is for every school district in Oklahoma), that the student must be in attendance 90% of the semester. Little Axe is a four day school week so that means, students cannot miss more than 8 days a semester to receive credit in a course.
District attendance and tardy policy: click here
Tardies have not been a priority do to the last few years of craziness. This year it is back into place.
As stated in the policy linked above and copied below:
TARDINESS
All students should learn the importance of being on time to class and school activities. To assist the development of punctuality within the student's educational framework, all students are required to be in class and/or at assigned activities on time. A student having accumulated three unexcused tardies in a given class per nine week period, or school quarter, will be assessed one unexcused absence in that class.
***Faculty has been notified of this and have been asked to follow district policy.
New policy in requesting transcripts
