Monthly Update: December 2020
Zones of Regulation & Respect
For the month of December, we are starting our lessons on emotional competence and control using the Zones of Regulation!
The Zones is a systematic, cognitive behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete colored zones.
We learn that all of our feelings can fit into 4 different Zones. Each Zone poster describes 4 different ways it might look to be in that Zone. It also has tools that students can use to get back to the Green Zone to get their body calm and refocused.
- Green Zone: Calm and ready to learn
- Blue Zone: Body is running very slow
- Yellow Zone: Body is starting to get a little out of control
- Red Zone: Our body is out of control - we need to stop
No Zone is bad to be in! But when we are in the Green Zone our body is calm and we are able to focus, problem solve, and move on.
