Media vs. Media Literature
I think that media is where people can connect and stay with friends. It is a good bad thing to have. It can be used for good because you can stay connected with friends and family. It also can keep you updated to what is “trending” or new. For example, they could be having a sale at Forever 21 and you could see that which just a look at an update on Twitter. It can keep you updated to what is happening at school with certain people and what is going on in their lives. Media though can be negative because it can attract negative attention towards you. It also can get you into trouble with whatever you post. For example you post you at party drinking and you are underage. Even with your privacy settings you still can get in trouble with your parents, or maybe even with the police, since they monitor that. Media literature is where people study about media and what is negative and positives about. For example this class is Media Literature and so far we have compared different social networking sites that we use today. We have compared what is good and bad with the different social networking sites. We have compared social networks from LinkedIn to Vine, two completely different social networking sites. We have also seen the different abbreviations and how they are “destroying the english language”, for example to excessive use of #.

State of New York labeling Interacial people and couples, people rebel back
The state of New York has issued a new law that interracial people/couples must wear a tracking watch. If any interracial couple/person is caught without the tracking watch will be placed in jail, with no trial. The purpose of these watches is to keep a list of “different” people and couples and to try to keep them limited. To make sure people are wearing them, they will have 4 cops per sidewalk.
A Korean woman says, “I have been married to my Puerto Rican husband for 13 year, we already get looked at different. Now they want to label us? We already know what we are, a couple in love.”
The state of New York has already issued that the police go to everyone’s house/apartment to issue the peoples watches.
What are people doing about it? They are rebelling back. 720 people have been arrested already. 500 for not wearing their tracking watches, 200 for resistance of arrest and 20 for assaulting an officer on the street. But why would those 20 people assault the officers? A 25 year old man by the name of Travis Jones was arrested for assaulting an officer. “I had good intentions for hitting that cop. He was harassing us and giving us a hard time. Usual day to day stuff right? Then he caught my attention when he said ‘If you were my son I would beat your ass myself because you’re with this white devil.’ Then he spat on my wife and kid! He said it’s not normal for a white woman to have a black child. My daughter, who is only 5, started to cry and the cop spat on them! People these days...”
Another person was harassed by the sidewalk cops. This person wanted to stay anonymous so they would not have to suffer any more consequences. “I do what they say. I wear my label or should I say dog tag. I know I’m Indian and Columbian. They don’t have to rub it in my face. I don’t want to even have kids now! Why should I bring kids into this judgmental world if they can’t even go outside without being tracked or stopped?”
The mayor of New York stated that, “This will help keep them for rising up and revolutionizing a generation that is already out of control. Do want our kids being allowed to express themselves and be with who they want to be with? Or shall we keep in control of kids’ lives, even their love life.”
Nixon not leaving office after the Watergate Scandal
On June 17, 1972, five men from Nixon’s reelection campaign were breaking into Watergate complex. Watergate complex is where Nixon’s rival (Democratic Party) headquarters was located. He was trying to find out secrets about his opposing party.
In 1973, Nixon's was president for the second time (Jan. 20). Roe v. Wade: Landmark Supreme Court decision legalizes abortion in first trimester of pregnancy (Jan. 22). Senate Select Committee begins televised hearings to investigate Watergate cover-up (May 17–Aug. 7). Vice President Spiro T. Agnew resigns over charges of corruption and income tax evasion (Oct. 10). President Nixon nominates Gerald R. Ford as vice president (Oct. 12). Ford is confirmed by Congress and sworn in (Dec. 6). He is the first vice president to succeed to the office under the terms laid out by the Twenty-Fifth Amendment.
In 1974, House Judiciary Committee recommends to full House that Nixon be impeached on grounds of obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and contempt of Congress (July 27–30). Nixon on August 9th decides to stay as the president. People are furious by the fact that he did not leave office after the horrible things happened. Riots broke out in main cities such as Chicago, New York, and San Diego. 40,000 people were injured and 20,000 arrested for rioting. Nixon’s five men were never tried or arrested for the crime. In November, people then had begun marching outside of White House and throwing garbage onto the property. Then the secret service then began to use fire hoses on them to get the crowd controlled.
In 1975, Nixon decides to still have the Panama Canal for the United States. He said, “This country needs to have as many resources as possible and we will take control of what is necessary. If that means having control of the whole area of Panama then that what it will take. We are not crooks, just resourceful.”
In 1977 he did not make an effort to have peace in Egypt and in these very words “It is on you guys, not on the United States to make an effort to be your Savior. Only the God above can do that.” He decided to take over the rest of Panama and Panama is 52nd state. It is still a state to this day.
The reason why I decided to change Nixon resigning is because he was the first president to get caught trying to found out information of his opposing party. Plus I never really thought he was a good president so I could only imagine if he was still in office what all he could screw up. The best thing he ever did was go visit China. The other reason why I decided to change this part of history is because I really didn't think Nixon was a good president and that the fact that it took a year in order for this scandal to “come out”. So to sum it up he is just the first president to get caught trying to leak secrets from the opposing party.
Theme Song for 1984
[Intro: Young Beyoncé & (Presenter)]
(The winner is Beyoncé Knowles: female pop vocalist!)
I would like to thank the judges for picking me
My parents who I love, I love you, Houston
[Verse 1]
And I've been drifting off on knowledge
Cat-calls on cat-walks, man these women getting solemn
I could sing a song for a Solomon or Salamander
We took a flight at midnight and now my mind can't help but wonder:
How come?
Spoon-fed pluralized eyes to find the beaches in the forest
When I'm looking off the edge, I preach my gut it can't help but ignore it
I'm climbing up the walls cause all the shit I hear is boring
All the shit I do is boring, all these record labels boring
I don't trust these record labels, I'm torn
All these people on the planet working 9 to 5 just to stay alive
The 9 to 5 just to stay alive, the 9 to 5 just to stay alive
The 9 to 5 just to stay alive, the 9 to 5 just to stay alive
The 9 to 5 just to stay alive, the 9 to 5 just to stay alive
All the people on the planet working 9 to 5 just to stay alive, how come?
[Hook]
What goes up ghost around
Ghost around, around, around, around
What goes up ghost around
Ghost around, around, around, around
What goes up ghost around
Ghost around, around, around, around
[Bridge]
Around, around, around, around, around, around, around
Around, around, around, around, around, around, around
Around, around, around, around, around, around, around
[Outro]
Soul not for sale
Probably won't make no money off this, oh well
Reap what you sow
Perfection is so, mmm
Part 2: Haunted
[Verse 1]
It's what you do, it's what you see
I know if I'm haunting you, you must be haunting me
It's where we go, it's where we'll be
I know if I'm onto you, I'm onto you
Onto you, you must be on to me
My haunted lungs, ghost in the sheets
I know if I'm onto you, you must be haunting me
My wicked tongue, where will it be?
I know if I'm onto you, I'm on to you
Onto you, I'm onto you
Onto you, you must be on to me
[Bridge]
You want me? I walk down the hallway
You like it? The bedroom's my runway
Slap me! I'm pinned to the doorway
Kiss, bite, foreplay
[Verse 2]
My haunted lungs, ghost in the sheets
I know if I'm haunting you, you must be haunting me
My wicked tongue, where will it be?
I know if I'm onto you, you must be onto me
It's what we see
I know if I'm haunting you, you must be haunting me
It's where we go, it's where we'll be
I know if I'm onto you, I'm onto you
Onto you, I'm onto you
Onto you, you must be onto me
You must be onto me
You must be onto me
You must be onto me
[Outro]
On to you, I'm on to you
On to you, I'm on to you
On to you, I'm on to you
On to you, I'm on to you
Me, me, me
The reason why I picked Haunted by Beyoncé is because in the song it talks about how people are always watching her and anything she says or do is being watched. The people that are watching her are her friends, family, fans, paparazzi and the government. This could be the theme song for 1984 because Big Brother was always watching what you do and anything you do can be used for or against you. Also there is one part where she is says, “Working from 9-5 to stay alive, how come?” That one line reminds of how Winston use to ask his own self why there was 2 minutes of hate or hate week for Goldstein the ultimate betrayer to Big Brother. When she said, “soul not for sale” that reminds of how he and Julia use to discuss how Big Brother cannot get inside you. You have your own will to think, you just can’t show it to Big Brother. Another reason why this song would be good theme song to 1984 is because she talks about how she doesn't trust the label she works because Winston thought he could trust O'Brien but ended up betraying him and making him love Big Brother.
Reflection of this past semester
What all I learned from the class was several of things; I’m not even sure where to begin. Well when I first walked in this class I thought we were going to read boring stories such as Frankenstein and other pointless British literature. Those things have absolutely no meaning in my life until you, Coach Zopf, told us it was going to be about Media Literature. I was happy to hear because I thought it was going to be easy, but you proved me wrong. I learned how to challenge myself and think deeply into my feelings. You pushed me outside of my comfort zone and no other teacher has done that. I have a lot of respect for you as an educator and how you treat students. You never made anyone feel stupid or that they could not do it. Now of course there was a lot that I missed with my injury but you out of all my teachers were the calmest and made things easier for me to understand since we were discussing dystopia. This class is not just different from my language arts classes but all of them. This class has an actual purpose and meaning behind it, not just making sure that the student gets spoon fed and moves on to the next grade. In all honesty I hope you do not change anything about this class. I loved all the discussion we had (whether mentally I was in it or not), the topics, and even the writing. Yes it was annoying at the time but I have never been taught how to properly cite sources and now that I do, it will benefit me later on. You from the beginning had high expectations of every student, regardless of what other teachers had said or what grades they had made. I will miss having the class and wish we had more than one semester of it. This class has changed my perception on of various things in my life.
