AVA Family Update
September 8, 2023
Good morning AVA Students and Families,
As we head towards our first full week with students, I think we have gotten most of the kinks out of our technology and processes, and both Edgenuity and Aspen should accurately reflect what all students are expected to do this year. I welcome questions on any nuts and bolts issues both now and going forward, but next week I will shift my focus towards student performance in the classes, rather than ensuring everyone is in the right spot.
As with every week, I will have the schedule below, and I want to introduce two new weekly features that will run yearlong: The Guidance and Community Updates. Ms. Ng, our guidance counselor, works very hard to get all pertinent information to students and families each week. Any questions about the content of her updates can be sent directly to her. We also have our community updates this week as well: It highlights the opportunities for students and families in the community each week.
In other news, I have an update about our Back to School Night schedule, and an invitation to all families to begin accessing the parent portal of Edgenuity below.
Thank you for your time.

Guidance Updates
From AVA Guidance:
Greetings, everyone! For those who don't know me, my name is Nellie Ng and I am the AVA Guidance Counselor as well the Guidance Counselor to a small caseload of students in-person on the AHS campus. Over the course of the school year, I will be checking in with AVA students about once a week during the AVA Advisory/morning period and sharing useful information and resources, from graduation requirements to college/career prep. We strongly encourage students to ask questions and bring up topics important to them. I am also available for individual virtual meetings by appointment (email below).
Update for Seniors
Congratulations on making it to your senior year! We in the Guidance Department will do everything we can to help all seniors prepare for life after high school. Here are some upcoming highlights for seniors:
Letters of Recommendation:
Letters of recommendation are part of the admission process for the majority of colleges. Requirements are different for each college, but most ask for three letters of recommendation: one from the guidance counselor and two from teachers. If you haven’t already asked your teachers for letters, now is the time to do so. You can use this form.
Attleboro High School College and Career visits: This is our list of upcoming visits and opportunities for all things college, military and career! To sign up for these visits, you will need to log into Naviance. If a college is on your application list, these visits can be extremely important.
