LHS Weekly Update #6
September 4, 2020
Cheech is loving remote learning. He is a great assistant to Ms. Werdin!
Moving into a 3-day Weekend
Fall is most definitely in the air and time seems to keep marching on whether we are ready for it or not. A reminder that Monday is Labor Day and there will be NO school. There is no change in the daily schedule the remainder of the week. Students can plan to connect with their "live" classes starting Tuesday. Wednesday continues to be a day for independent work and individualized/small group support.
The school board did vote on a couple action items Wednesday evening that impact Lathrop. First, they voted to bring back small groups of students with specific needs. If your student is being considered for this you can expect a phone call next week. Be mindful that this is a small, targeted group. Secondly, they voted to remain in remote learning for remainder of the quarter (which ends Oct. 16). What quarter 2 will look like, I cannot be certain, but I will be sure to update you with any new information as it becomes available.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for you and your student to communicate regularly with teachers. My daughter is a student at Lathrop and I have appreciated watching her learn how to navigate effective communication when she is feeling stuck or uncertain about things. Teaching and learning remains a challenge but it is very do-able and communication is key.
As I have shared in previous weeks:
If having connectivity issues or struggling with using Google Classroom, call the front office 456-7794, or email our librarian, Joy Boyce for assistance. joy.boyce@k12northstar.org
If you are in need of books, supplies, Chromebooks, or any other school items, there is no need to pre-schedule a time. Stop by the front office between 8am and 3pm any week day.
Finally, you can always refer to our Lathrop Website for information and tech troubleshooting tips and tricks.
You are welcome to email me directly with any questions (carly.sween@k12northstar.org) or submit them via this Google Form.

Liability Waivers
The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District has been advised by ASAA to collect COVID-19 waivers for all students participating in activities and sports. Practices are continuing despite being in the red operational zone. If and when the district shifts back to an intermediate operational zone, students will once again have the opportunity to play in sporting events. Sending it to all district students now will help ensure we have waivers on file when this happens. If you do not intend for your student to participate in extracurricular activities this school year please disregard the waiver.
If your student needs extra assistance with math, this could be a good resource for you.
Lathrop is in need of empty wipes containers. Drop these off at the front office. Thank you!
Please share this information - we are looking for help.
