School Counseling Newsletter
September 2020, 2nd Edition
As we prepare to return to school in person on September 29th & 30th, we imagine there are a variety of feelings. There could be anxiety about the changes, maybe some fear for your family's health, and hopefully some joy in that we will finally be together again. A normally well-adjusted student might suddenly have lots of fear about leaving home, or some separation anxiety may crop up. Or, you all might just be relieved and happy that some semblance of normal school will be happening again. Whatever you and your student are feeling is ok. None of us have been through a pandemic before, so we are all learning and adjusting together. Don't forget that we are here to help everyone adjust to the newest normal.
Here a few things you might try before your student heads back to school:
- Have your student start wearing a mask for chunks of time. This can help them get used to them.
- Talk to your student about the coming start date. Let them ask any questions, and let share any concerns. Help them figure out where they will go as soon as they arrive.
- Visit and re-visit expectations with your student (mask wearing, hand sanitizing, space from peers).
- Remind your student they are not alone. This is a little (ok, a lot!) weird for everyone, but there are lots of adults who care and can help.
We can't wait to see your students here at Worthingway soon. Thanks for reading on for updates from the Worthingway Counseling Team.
Best,
Mrs. Fei

Worthington Bridges
If you can help... check out the Worthington Bridges website. Needs are posted regularly and you can sign up to receive email updates for new posts. Typically, there aren't more than a couple of emails each week. Currently, needs posted include masks and computers. You can also always donate money to specific causes if you'd like.
If you need help... contact Mrs. Fei. I am happy to discuss your need with you, and see if it is something we can partner with Worthington Bridges on.
