Raureka School Term 1 Week 10
Newsletter 6 April 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,
We have reached Week 10 with only one more week to go before we break for the end of Term 1. Last week we had our first full school assembly for the year. All of the children were outside in the quad and were suitably distanced from one another. The Junior and Senior teams are able to hold team assemblies indoors as they are below 200. Yay
Thank you to everyone who have been working with us to keep everybody safe. We still have a number of children who are testing positive and need to isolate at home. Hopefully everything will start to ease up so we can start to get back to normality.
Covid19 -The key changes to the COVID-19 Protection Framework impacting schools are:
- removal of My Vaccine Pass from the framework effective from 11.59pm Monday 4 April (see item below)
- and from 11.59pm Friday 25 March:
- removal of any outdoor capacity limits at all colours of the framework
- increased capacity limits when indoors at Red, moving from 100 to 200 (but still allowing for one-metre spacing) and no capacity limits indoors at Orange and Green
- no requirement to display QR codes at any setting (but be ready to use them again in the future)
- no need to have alternate check-in systems for COVID-19 beyond your usual visitor register processes
- no mask requirements when outdoors (but masks remain a requirement indoors for staff and children/students in Years 4-13 when at Red)
- additionally, masks are strongly encouraged to be worn at Orange.
New Zealand remains at Red. However, Cabinet will review the framework colour level on Monday 14 April, I will let you know of any changes then.
Remember if your child is feeling sick please keep them home until they are well.
If your child does need to isolate either as being a household contact or for testing positive please let us know.
Symptoms of COVID-19:
- A new or worsening cough
- Sneezing and runny nose
- A fever
- Temporary loss of smell or altered sense of taste
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
Less common symptoms include diarrhoea, headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, malaise, chest pain, abdominal pain, joint pain, or confusion/irritability.
We know how hard the impacts on COVID-19 have been for many families in New Zealand. If you know of a family in your community who is struggling, please encourage them to reach out for support for example to access food, medicine, or access financial support: Help is available – COVID-19 Health Hub.
If you have any concerns, please do get in touch. We are here to help.
Concerns or Worries: If you have any concerns or worries please make sure that you come to us as soon as possible so we can see what the problem is and try to get to the bottom of the issue quickly. Remember if it involves your child go to the class teacher first, if that isn't successful then let us know and we'll help you with the problem. Greg

The painters have now finished in the room and they are getting onto the carpets and other interior changes, this is looking so promising now.
Mufti Day: Thursday 14 April: Last Day of school
Next Thursday we will have our termly Mufti Day- children can make a Gold Coin donation that will go towards the RSS who are raising money to buy a large screen TV for the Hall.
We should be able to get back into the hall as soon as we get into Orange Level.
Congratulations to ex student Kevin Spargo for making it into the NZ Taekwondo world Cup team to go to Argentina
We wish Kevin all the best and hope he does well. He is trying to raise funds for his trip and he may have a raffle to sell if parents want to help support him. I will let you know if this is the case.
IMPORTANT - Email addresses for BOTH parents is needed please.
Thank you to those who have sent these in. If you have not had time yet, please send both parent's email addresses to office@raureka.school.nz.
IMPORTANT - If your child is away from school -
Reminder that you need to let the school know if your child is going to be away. Because of the current covid situation, it is essential that you let us know the reason they are away - eg coughing, headache, tummy bug etc.
You can phone either 06 8789766 or 027 557 0085 and leave a message.
Thank you for this, it is so helpful and we want to ensure your child is okay.

· Do your child’s records need updating?
- moved house?
- phone/cellphone numbers changed?
- living arrangements changed?
- emergency contacts changed?
- medical details?
Medical Reminders
IMPORTANT: Children are NOT to carry any form of medication in their bags etc. All medication must be held in the office. Parents must complete a Medical Form to enable staff to administer medication.
We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.
· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.
· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.
· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.
· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.
Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.
Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers.
The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. Please contact Chris in the school office if your are able to help (even if you have helped in the past, please confirm).
