From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Happy week of the first home performance for the Sound of the Wildcats! The uniform for this week's football game is our Summer Uniform - 2022 Show Shirt, tan/khaki shorts, belt, athletic shoes, and socks.
The SOTW did an awesome job at this past Thursday's "Meet the Cats" pep rally in the WPHS Auditorium. They represented our program and school with class and received many compliments from attendees!
Water Bottle Donations Needed: The Band is in need of water bottle donations. We provide bottles of water to our students at many events as well as providing water bottles to visiting marching bands at our home football games. Donated water bottles need to be at least 12 - 16oz, no smaller. This year, we will be giving a prize to the section of the marching band that brings in the most water donations. Please clearly mark a donated pack of water bottles with the student name and section. Water donations can be dropped off at any time in the Band room, and donations are due by Friday, 8/26. Thank you in advance!
Our fundraiser with the biggest direct-to-student benefit of the year is happening now! Please see below in Julie Capps' Program Ads and Sponsorships Fundraiser section of the newsletter for more details. This fundraiser is easy, and students get 60% of any ad space they sell back into their account as credit. PARENTS: one easy way to use this fundraiser could benefit you - take out a "shoutout" ad for your student and get 60% of that purchase directly back to you in the form of credit! Extended family can also become a Sponsor in the name of your student and 100% of that money goes to them as credit. If you have questions, please contact Julie via email at juliedcapps@aol.com.
Some important information concerning the New York City Tour 2023 will be coming to your email inboxes this week. For now, please find a recap of the Tour Information Meeting from Monday, 8/15, along with an initial, tentative payment schedule at http://www.winterparkhsband.com/new-york-tour-2023.html
If we just met your student in class the first week of school, welcome to the Winter Park Band! We are so glad that you are here with us! Another reminder that there are two things I need to ask of our very new families, and they both are time sensitive. 1) Please visit www.winterparkhsband.com/register.html and complete the Google Registration Form. This will allow us to add you to our electronic communication. 2) Please have your student attend this Tuesday's ECG Screening Night at WPHS. All Band students need a current physical and ECG to participate in marching band, and this opportunity is the easiest way to have the ECG done. Visit www.whoweplayfor.org/heart-screening-registration-orange-county and sign your student up for a screening time. Once your physical and ECG are complete, please go to this link: https://winterparkathletics.org/submit-physical-ecg-information-here/ and submit your paperwork for clearance. Thank you to everyone who has already taken care of this!
Have a great week everyone!

From the Band Booster President, Mrs. Dana Adkinson
Hello Band! You band kids are so awesome! You all sounded great on Thursday night and conducted yourselves in the expected, respected manner of WPHS Band Students .. so proud to be associated with such a class act! The Meet the Cats performance is always a good way to warm up to a season full of Friday night stand tunes and the fight song (over and over and over!!). Honestly, the Sound of the Wildcats' contribution to that annual tradition really MAKES the whole program and ties it together! Way. To. Go!!
Parents, remember to sign up (or renew) as an Additions volunteer. You must be "additions approved" to chaperone ,, and we all want to chaperone, of course ;) .. even if you have already signed up in a volunteer slot on sign up genius. Additions sign up is here: https://www.ocps.net/cms/One.aspx?portalId=54703&pageId=89698
Chaperone Season begins this Friday .. if you haven't yet signed up to help with a football game (so easy, lots of fun!), find a slot to do so here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football
Super big thanks to the students for picking up those concert uniforms last week.. parents, have your student try on his or her uniform SOON .. the first time they'll wear it is the October concert, but that will sneak up on us for sure. Uniforms may need to be hemmed or lengthened between now and then. Any uniform problems or questions, reach out to Andrea Rediske (andrea.rediske@gmail.com) And also huge thanks to the parents who have been part of the Tuesday night uniform squad .. thanks to Amanda Schaefer and her minions, the marching uniforms and the uniform room is taking shape!
Look out for an email this week with specific details about purchasing "concession meals" for your student during the game. These are meals (sandwich / burger / hotdog kind of thing) that we try to organize to enable our band kids a chance to eat during the game without battling the concession stand crowd. So go ahead and put that $5 or $7 in your students' backpack tonight, because the meals are pre-ordered before Friday night. So once we know what the meal deal is for Friday during the game, your kid will be ready to go.
And remember to sell sell sell those concert program ads! Such a great way to raise money for your student's band account .. and these funds can be used for band fees this year as well as the NYC trip this summer. Contact Julie Capps with any questions (704- 258-3306 or juliedcapps@aol.com).
Other questions or concerns? Reach out to any of the board members (http://www.winterparkhsband.com/band-boosters.html) or directors.
Have a great week, WIldcats .. can't wait to see you all perform Friday night!
Dana Adkinson

Program Ads and Sponsorships Fundraiser - Due 9/9
Hello WPHS Band Families!
***Raise Money Now to Offset your Fair Share Payments and NYC Trip Costs!***
The season for selling ads in the Winter Park High Band program is well underway. If you are not familiar with this program, the Winter Park Band Concert Program features pictures of the Band as well as information about the band’s instructor and members. The program is distributed free at all concerts throughout the school year and includes local business ads, student dedications and sponsorships purchased by local businesses and families.
With the band scheduled to take a group trip to New York City in June 2023, it is important you understand how purchasing or selling an ad in the band program can help you save money on that trip. Any ad sold by your student can help defray your financial obligations to Band, including payment for the NYC trip. Once payment for the ad is received, the student’s Band account will be credited with 60% of the ad revenue that he/she sells, depending on the Band’s printing cost.
Here's how selling just one ad can benefit you:
- Sell a full-page ad ($325) to your kid’s orthodontist? You’ll get an estimated $195 credit on your account that can then be used toward the cost of the NYC trip.
- Celebrate your Band Student with a ½ page student dedication? While the ad will cost you $175, you will then get a credit back of roughly $105 that can go back towards your payments to band. This is especially popular with Senior families, but the family of any student can put a shoutout into the program.
The three types of advertising available are:
- Business Ad: Connect your local business or a business you frequent with audiences attended WPHS band performances throughout the school year.
- Student Dedication: Celebrate your student’s participation in the WPHS band program with a ¼, ½ or full-page ad that can include multiple pictures.
- Sponsorship: Become a “Friend of Winter Park Band” with a monetary donation and recognition on the sponsorship list. This is a great option for family and friends who ask how they can support your student in band.
The deadline for selling or purchasing an ad is quickly approaching. So that the program can be printed in time for the first home concert, all ads must be purchased or sold by Friday, September 9, 2022. Forms for the ad program can be accessed on the WPHS Band website by clicking About>Band Boosters. All files are located under the section Program Ads and Sponsors 2022.
Have additional questions? Contact Julie Capps, Program Ads & Sponsors Coordinator at 704- 258-3306 or juliedcapps@aol.com.

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
