What is going on?

Writing: Students will learn the remaining steps in the writing process (revising, editing, and publishing). Students will take their draft from last week through the writing process and celebrate by sharing their published work at the end of the week.

Spelling Words this week: said, these, they, our, very, with, went

Reading: Students will compare the plots of fiction stories written by the same author.

Math: We will continue the study of place value focusing on larger numbers. Students will determine if a number is even or odd, compare numbers, and play corresponding math games. We will use number lines and open number lines to solve math problems including those with larger numbers.

Science: We will begin our science unit by learning about science safety, expectations, and some different types of scientist

Last week in their planner, I sent home three pages that have to do with starting Genius Hour- If you could please help your child fill it out and bring it back to school- This will help me guide them into their first project. I appreciate your help! (Alert, Alert! Please send this into school please!!) If you need another copy- please email me!

It's time to Stuff the Boots! The Fall Fundraiser starts on September 19th and runs through October 7th! Classes will compete against each other in each grade level to win Zoey the Zebra & Stanley the Stallion visit their class. Look for the orange flyer in this week's Thursday folders. Please help us raise money for our school, every dollar counts! Got questions?

Spirit Wear T-shirts

School spirit t-shirts are on sale now!

You can order your t-shirt online only by visiting the Sommer PTA website. There are red dri-fit and black cotton t-shirts available for adults and students. Show your school spirit by following the steps below to order today! The deadline for ordering -t-shirts for the 2016-2017 school year is Sept. 23rd. Please contact Spirit Wear Chairs, Jessica Blanchard or Carmen Padua for any questions at this


1. Go to the Sommer PTA website (

2. Click on "store" tab in the upper right.

3. Pick spirit wear items using the drop down menus then purchase. (Please note you will need to sign in with an email and password in order to complete your purchase and your personal info will not be shared with any outside resources.)

Note: Please know the ladies cut shirt runs SMALL, please order at least one size larger than normal for the ladies cut.


The order will be placed after the deadline above. Once shirts arrive, they will be sorted and distributed to your student at school. Expect delivery to be mid-October.

We will post updates on the Sommer PTA Facebook page when shirts are delivered.
