Student/Parent Conferences are next week
From Monday November 19th through Wednesday November 21st teachers will conduct Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences. Teachers generally schedule conferences on Monday and Tuesday from 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. If teachers offer conferences in the evening on both Monday and Tuesday, they are not required to work on Wednesday. Some teachers may schedule conferences on Wednesday. Please be on time for conferences to be respectful of the conference before or after your conference time. If a conference needs to be extended please arrange an additional time to meet before the time your conference is to end. Conferences are 20 minutes in length. It is so crucial that every parent schedule a conference.

We thank our parents for their visit to our school during the week. We appreciate the support you have shown to your children and to our staff. We hope you had an opportunity to see instruction in your child’s classroom. The staff at Lisbon work extremely hard to give a high quality education to every student.

Lisbon Geography Bee
Do you know where our third, fourth and fifth graders were on the morning of Friday, November 16th? They were on the continent of North America, in the country of the United States, in the state of Maryland, in the county of Howard County, in the city of Woodbine, in the Lisbon Elementary School Lion’s Den watching the Lisbon Elementary School Geography Bee. Competing were 19 fourth and fifth grade contestants who were selected to participate based on their score on a preliminary round administered in Technology class to all fourth and fifth grade students earlier this year. The winner of our School Bee was 4th grader, Juliana Roussillon, and our second place winner was 4th grader, JT Winn. Next, Juliana will take a test in late January to qualify for the State Bee. Congratulations to all of our contestants: Henry Banach, Caleb Donner, Raegan Hahn, AJ Parks, Juliana Roussillon, JT Winn, Valerie Baldwin, Kaitlyn Hill, Bailey Kim, Grant Knauss, Adeline Byrne, Marie Gordon, Thiago Hardy, Alaina McCoyd, Ari Stone, Malcolm Parson, Owen Furman, Troy Godwin, and Audrey Orr. They should be very proud of their dedication to learning geography.
CogAt Testing
This year, the Howard County Public School System will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all students in grades 3 and 5. The CogAT is a group-administered abilities test that measures students’ reasoning abilities, which they develop through in-school and out-of-school experiences. It is not designed to test a student’s academic achievement, but their potential.
The test is made of three batteries – Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal. Each battery takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The CogAT helps educators understand a student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses and assists with adapting instruction to meet the needs and abilities of each student.
All students in Grades 3 and 5 will participate in the testing. The CogAT will be administered to students in grade 3 on December 3th, 4th and 5th. The CogAT will be administered to students in grade 5 on December 3rd, 4th and 5th. No special preparation is required. Just send your child to school ready to learn as you do daily.
The Gifted and Talented Education Program will use the data from the CogAT as one criterion for placement into fourth grade Gifted/Talented mathematics classes and middle school Gifted/Talented content classes. Students’ individual scores will be reported to parents in late February/early March.
Please contact Ms. Wright on 410-313-5506 if you have any questions about your child’s involvement with the CogAT assessment.
Next issue of the Lisbon Lines will be published on Friday, December 7th.

School Supply Donations
Our friends at Phelps Luck Elementary need our help! PLES is in need of: boxes of tissues, primary writing journals (journals with primary, dotted, handwriting lines and picture space), and poly expanding files (plastic expandable files with a rubber band closure and file divider pockets inside, for 8.5x11 letter size papers). Simply send your items to LES with your child or place them in the collection bin in front of the school office. Thank you SO much for your donation and ROARsome support of our HCPSS family!
Love for Cooper
Are you looking to support the Trueblood family? With frequent trips to and from the hospital, the family could use our support for things like gas, meals away from home, and specific items for Cooper. Gift cards are ideal (Visa and Amazon are two good general ones.), and these are being collected in the front office. You can drop them off or send them to school in an envelope marked “Cooper Trueblood.” Your thoughts and prayers are great gifts, too!
