High Lakes News

October 2016

This Months Highlights!

High Lakes Growth

Everyone has been hired and we are on the way to having a great year at High Lakes. Our newest teacher is Amanda Jessup. She comes to us from the Seattle area and will be helping out in our fifth grade. Preparations are underway for our modular unit that arrives in late October. We will not be occupying that unit until later in the year.

Don’t Forget Conferences

On October 26th and 27th we will have conferences. Please plan to attend your child’s conference. It is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and ask questions. The teachers also appreciate meeting you so they can share your child’s progress. There is no school October 27th and 28th.

Fall Holiday Parties

Classrooms will be having holiday parties of some sort on Monday, October 31st. We ask that if students are dressing up, they need to do this just for their parties. Masks, pretend weapons, blood and this year, clowns are prohibited. We want to keep the activities fun and safe for everyone. *Kindergarten students may wear their costume to school and change after their classroom party.

Safety

Thank you for your patience while we are working through the bugs of our new visitor and volunteer sign-in. Please remember any time you come to the building please use the front entrance. We appreciate your support as we keep your children safe.

Digital Citizenship

Our school will be participating in the Bend-La Pine School’s Digital Citizenship Week beginning October 17th. The focus of this initiative is to promote the safe, respectful and responsible use of technology at school and at home. Students will learn digital skills, ethics, etiquette, time management and online safety. These are important aspects of participating in today’s world.

As always, thanks for helping us build a better community.

Gym Corner

Running club had a great start. Thanks to all the parents that worked so hard to make this happen!

Fuel UP to Play 60 is a great program for your kids to do health and physical activity outside of school. Recently, our school was awarded some great football flags and footballs for our PE program. The program is sponsored by the Dairy council and the NFL. Your child can sign up on line for free and earn points toward being a Fuel UP to Play 60 ambassador. The website is: https://www.fueluptoplay60.com

It won’t be long before it snows. I am collecting gently used tennis shoes for kids that forget their tennis shoes on PE days. Please bring any tennis shoes that you no longer need to Mrs. Bouck in the gym. What are the right shoes for PE? Any tennis shoe that stays on the foot. Slip-ons are OK as long as the student can kick a ball without it flying off. Keen sandals that have a closed toe and strap around the back are also fine to wear. Please no crocs or boots in class. Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a great October and remember to get out and get that 60 minutes of physical activity every day! Mrs. Bouck
