Literacy Week Starts on Monday

Every day is literacy day at Elginburg Public School but next week we are going to shine a light on LITERACY!

Monday to Thursday - Drop Everything And Read in classrooms

Reading Buddies - Many of our classes will have an extra Reading Buddy meeting so older students can read to the little ones!

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - Bring a book to the gym at FIRST RECESS and read!

Thursday - Assembly bring your Writing Burst Journal and your book to the gym for a fun literacy based assembly!

Literacy at Home

Parents’ reading habits play a large role in determining how often kids read: 57% of kids who are frequent readers have parents who read books 5–7 days per week, compared to only 15% of kids who are infrequent readers (Kids and Family Reading Report – Scholastic, 2017).

Family Literacy Activity Ideas:

  • Plan a Day Trip - Go online together to find fun (and free) places to go in your city
  • Pop-Up Kitchen - Follow a recipe together - a yummy way to practice math and reading
  • Weekend Hike - Enjoy the great outdoors and learn about nature - why not make it a scavenger hunt
  • Reverso Story - Tell your favourite story, backwards - start with the ending. Can your family guess the story?
  • Tell it 2 me - Write a secret message with numbers and do math to solve it
  • Story Switch-A-Roo - Take turns reading a bedtime story together, kids and adults each read one sentence at a time

Online Payments Coming Soon!

Online payments coming soon!

Our school is one of several schools to launch a new secure online portal that will allow families to complete payments and permission forms online. Parents and guardians will be invited via email to view their student’s school-related events such as field trips, sporting events or yearbook purchases. Parents/guardians will then be asked to complete the required permissions (if applicable) and complete payment via credit card or electronic funds transfer from their bank account. Instructions on how to register for this new system will be shared once the system goes live in March. This new portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.
