A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal

Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,

We can definitely see the END OF YEAR TARGET from here....but hang in there, because there is still plenty of work to do to ensure that you "HIT" the target and not have to continue on in summer school! Hard work now, and finishing strong, creates a nice long summer break for you! Let's make it happen Longhorns! Speaking of TARGETS...graduation is just ONE short week away for our Seniors! They will be walking Main Street ONE MORE TIME as a graduating class on Friday the 20th! Stay tuned for that video next week, it gives me chills to watch this! We are so proud of you Class of 2022!

Student driving and parking safety needs to be revisited.

Parents are sending me videos and pictures of vehicles that are speeding, cutting people off, and passing people while almost getting in head on collisions, students NOT parking in their reserved spot and believe it or not...students actually getting out of their car and cussing at parents. Longhorns you are better than this. Of course, I will be reminding everyone of the expectations on the morning announcements, and pulling in individual students, but parents I need your help. Please talk to your student driver, as being able to drive and park at GRHS is a privilege, not a right, and when safety is compromised, I will be pulling parking passes. We will be notifying parents of any student that is not following my expectations, and consequences will ensue.

As I say daily....KEEP making those SMART decisions with behavior, academics, and attendance...it all matters to make it smoothly to summer!

EXEMPTION ONLINE WINDOW OPEN FOR 9TH-11TH GRADERS - MAY 13TH -17TH!

Dress code still matters, so please make sure you are WELL within it each day! That means your shorts are LONG enough, shorts can be SEEN WELL BELOW those oversized t-shirts, no mid drift showing (which means the length of your shirt matters too), and no hoodies UP inside the building.

ID's are mandatory...or exemptions will be declined! This is NOT a new rule!

If you do not have an ID at this point, you will need to purchase a new one for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15am. If you choose not to, there will be a HOLD placed on your account for the end of year. (NO exemptions/graduation/final grades, etc) Remember No ID = No Tech visible! Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance.

The front office is open daily Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

Campus Expectations and Driving/Parking Reminders!

Expectations are Clear!

Not adhering to the campus expectations is not an option. I have been crystal clear and also personally review them every morning on announcements. If you choose to NOT follow them, you are choosing to accept the consequences, including ISS, OSS, possible ALC, and of course the loss of your exemptions. Most of our campus is doing a great job with this, but if you are one that is NOT, now is the time to fix it. Disrespect will get you in trouble, so the sooner you understand rules/policies are meant to be followed, not argued, the more successful you will be not only in school but in life. If you are causing unnecessary work for us, due to non compliance to very fair rules and expectations, you will be suspended, because we are focusing on the Longhorns that are trying their best and making end of year academic success as the priority.

Driving and Parking Reminders:

  • Please make sure you are parking in YOUR designated parking spot (that was paid for). A few students have been parking in visitor parking, you will be towed moving forward, there are no warnings. We're short on spots for subs and various district personnel visiting the campus for the day when you take these spots.
  • Leave a little earlier, by you running late, you are causing major parking lot safety concerns. No more u-turns on 762 to bypass the traffic light, because this is very dangerous. Fort Bend County has been notified so they will start patrolling it.
  • Speeding and cutting across the parking lot will result in you losing your driving/parking privileges. The safety of our Longhorns and staff is too important to me.
  • Parents dropping off students in the parking lot, you will need to stay in the driveway, or pull in a spot to drop off, blocking the parking spots for staff is keeping them from being on duty on time. This creates an unsafe environment for us, and that cannot happen. Thanks for your help!

Angela Robles, one of our seniors, received the virtual version of this scholarship during the fall and studied Chinese (Mandarin) for ten weeks. Her curiosity and love for the Chinese language grew in this period of time and decided to apply for the Chinese Summer Program. This past March she got results on her status and has been awarded the Scholarship for the Summer Program. She will be going to study at the Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan to further learn Chinese (Mandarin).
