Cape's Mission & Vision

Mission: To provide a safe and supportive learning community where every student experiences success.

Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.

Message from Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

Dear Cape Families,

Welcome to the month of April! We are super excited about the progress that our Cape kids have made this school year. While there have been struggles, we feel confident that we are on a path toward a greater sense of normalcy. We would like to thank our students, parents, and community members for all of their support during these challenging times. As we continue to move forward, we encourage parents to be vigilant in communicating with your child’s teacher and monitoring your child’s grades and attendance through FOCUS. Third quarter report cards will be sent home via students on Friday, April 23rd and Lee Home Connect will be mailed home the week of May 4th.

With the return of larger student groups, it is imperative that students remain informed regarding our safety policies. Students must wear masks properly, practice physical distancing, wash and disinfect hands. Safety is our top priority.

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are ready to show what they know on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA). They will have the opportunity to take the FSA in the month of April and May. Please look at our school calendar and FSA dates in this newsletter or our website for specific dates. Limited homework will be given during FSA testing days.

Please make sure your children are:

  • at school each day by 7:45.

  • well rested.

  • fed a nutritious breakfast.

We would like to thank the Cape PTO officers, Mrs. Amy Gabel, Mrs. Corinne MacDonald, and Mrs. Aileen Ernest, for their work this year. It has been tricky trying to continue supporting our students and teachers. The officers have been creative and flexible and are always willing to do whatever it takes to keep things going. Thanks to all the parents who supported PTO fundraising and activities. Our students are loving the blue Adirondack chairs and our new playground is being shipped to Cape next week. Students love being outside! We look forward to seeing all of our Cape families at our PTO Spirit Night at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A portion of the sales will go to Cape PTO.

Cape is a special place to work. We are honored to be the leaders of this great school! Please continue to contact us via email or phone call when you have a concern, question or comment!

Sincerely,

Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

Message From Your School Social Worker

  • One in ten kindergarten and first grade students nationally are chronically absent, which causes them to miss nearly a month of school.
  • Absences in elementary school correlate to reading difficulties and poor attendance patterns in middle and high school.
  • Students can reverse their academic difficulties if they improve their school attendance.
  • Parents/Guardians are unaware the significant effects of chronic absenteeism and how absences in elementary school correlates to academic struggles.
  • Possible barriers to school attendance include health issues, transportation, housing displacement, food insecurity, peer conflicts, mental health needs etc.…
  • Please contact the School Social Worker if you have concerns for your child’s attendance.

Thank you!
