2020 Reading Challenge
Three Challenge Categories to expand our reading in 2020.
Book of the Month Club
Jan- Book connected to your word of intent, goals or resolutions for 2020.
Feb - An Alex Award book (ALA book awards to be announced Mon. Jan. 27th).
March- a book about trees in honor of Earth Day and spring. As a bonus, complete the DNR virtual 5k, celebrating Bob Ross' "happy little trees". And don't be afraid to count a book about Bob Ross in this category!
April - a book borrowed from the library in honor of National Library Month).
May - a book from a celebrity book club (I recommend Reese Witherspoon or Oprah).
June- authored by a black or African American writer (bonus if it connects to Juneteenth)
July- Celebrate the Olympics with a book about the games or about this year's host country, Japan.
August- a LONG read. Nothing better than the dog days of summer to tackle that formiddable book.
September- Banned book. See ALA lists linked below.
October-a book recommended on your favorite podcast/vodcast/vlog.
November- a book on gratitude. Think beyond self-help!
December- connect to the holidays in this season of dark. Solstice (Yule), Advent, Hanukkah, Christmas around the world)
20 in 2020
- A book related to vision (literal!)
- A book being released as a movie in 2020 (read it before the movie release!)
- A book to be more informed on political history.
- A book on the Japanese Internment.
- A book that has been translated.
- A book about friendship.
- A book written by a refugee.
- A political book from "the other side" (whichever side that applies to for you!).
- A book about family.
- A daily journal/devotional or book about faith.
- A children's book.
- A Young Adult book.
- A book about redemption.
- Read a book you were SUPPOSED to read in school!
- A book written by a Michigan author.
- A book set in our about Michigan.
- A book set in our written in the 1920s.
- A book written by an author in their twenties (at the time of writing).
- A book about community.
- A book about empathy.
Book Nerd - 52 books in 52 weeks.
- Books from across the political spectrum. Be daring. Learn what the "other side" is thinking. What makes them believe and respond the way they do. This works no matter what "side" you find yourself in during these polarizing times.
- Books that expand your understanding of other culture and experience. Think of India, Africa, Asia. Religions other than your own.
- Movies you loved that were based on a books that you didn't read.
- Recommendations from the Reading Challenge Group.
- Award winning books. (see link below for book award lists)
- Financial well being.
- Audiobooks
