Summer Apex - Credit Recovery & Credit Advancement
General Information:
This Summer Academy program is for those students wishing to earn high school credit for a previously failed course OR to take an additional high school course over the summer.
Apex is an online curriculum that allows students to progress through the content at their own pace.
A student may be enrolled in only ONE Apex course at a time. If a student is able to complete a course before the deadline, the student can choose to take a second course as long as the student pays the fee for a second course and is able to finish and pass the coursework by July 27th. All work completion requirements and attendance policies apply to all courses enrolled throughout the summer learning academy.
All courses will be offered at the “Core” level and are listed as either one semester (0.5 credit) or two semesters (1.0 credit).
Registration and Fees: Priority registration will be given to seniors and other credit deficient students. Out-of-district students will only be allowed to register if there are open spaces after all EPHS students have been registered. There is a student capacity limit of 100 students enrolled at a given time in Apex. Any additional students will be placed on a waiting list and will be enrolled when/if other students complete their Apex courses. Cost: In-district students - $50 for 0.5 credit courses & $100 for 1.0 credit courses Out-of-district students - $150 for 0.5 credit courses and $300 for 1.0 credit courses Payment in full is required by June 20th (first day of Summer School), unless a payment plan has been approved by the Registrar's Office. Students will not be allowed to attend summer school until a payment has been made. Students that have not paid by June 20th will be placed on the waiting list. Refunds will not be issued once the student has begun class. Work Completion Requirements: Students who register for Summer Academy understand that a minimum of 90% of all required computer work and all printed work must be submitted in order to be considered for credit. If a student does not complete at least 90% of the course with an overall grade of 60% or above by the deadline date, no credit or grade will be issued. All work must be submitted on or prior to 12:00 PM on Friday, July 21, 2023 Final grades will be issued no later than July 28, 2023 based upon the quality and completion of the work submitted. A student earning a course grade of A, B, C, or D will receive credit for the course. No refunds will be issued for incomplete courses or courses that do not earn a passing grade. Attendance Policy: All students are required to attend in-person for the first week of classes, but may be allowed to attend virtually at the teacher’s discretion following the first week of class. When students are in-person learning at the building, they will be located in the SCIENCE AMPHITHEATER. Students are expected to report to the classroom (virtually or in-person) by 8:00 AM each day. Any student who does not report to class by 8:30 AM will be issued an absence for the day. Office hours will be available for an hour during the weeks of June 26, July 3, July 10 and July 17 for students that need additional assistance. The accumulation of 3 tardies will be the equivalent of one absence. If a student has four absences, they will be removed from the class and no refund will be issued. Excessive behavioral issues could result in removal from the class and no refund will be issued. If a student successfully completes and submits all required work for the course prior to July 14, that student will be excused from the makeup week of classes (July 24-27).
