Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wonderful start to the school year! We have had so many school events back on our school calendar which has promoted a sense of belonging and endless opportunities. Knowing what awesome things are coming up in 2023 it is going to be a great year!
School Community Charter
The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive. The School Community Charter can be found here and is below.
Inclusive, Engaging and Respectful Schools
The DoE has released a new reform Inclusive, Engaging and Respectful schools which brings together new policies and system-wide supports on inclusive education for students with disability, student behaviour and restrictive practices, to ensure every student can reach their full potential in NSW public schools. LPS staff have started the process of engaging with these policies and are in the planning and implementation phases.
This year we have commenced the Behaviour Management Procedures which has led to the introduction of our new Positive Behaviour for Learning framework. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is an evidence-based framework that brings together the whole-school community to contribute to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. The framework assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people. All staff have engaged in professional learning around PBL. Staff and students have voted for school values that they feel best caters for our students and school community. We are seeking parents and carers feedback too. Please click on the link below to vote 3 values and have your say. Community votes close at 10am on 17 March. https://forms.office.com/r/CUsu1nDxsu
As we update our procedures, I will be holding some focus groups with students and staff to see how they feel about our current behaviour procedures. From this, we will also be looking at parent views and will then look at tweaking our system and ways of communicating our system better to all students.
COVID-Safe Measures
As mentioned previously, we are continuing our COVID-smart measures into 2023. While the community continues to transition towards living with COVID-19, NSW Health advised that the unpredictable nature of the virus will continue to present a health risk to the community, with new waves of transmission expected this year. Our school will continue to operate with baseline COVID-smart measures in place this term to minimise transmission.
These include a combination of layered safety measures, such as:
Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools
Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain
Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our staff and students, including COVID-19 booster shots for anyone eligible
Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use
Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to schools free of charge.
NSW Government and Department of Education’s fact sheet for parents and carers provides an easy-to-read summary of this term’s COVID-smart measures.
Meet the Teacher & Welcome BBQ
It was lovely to see so many families join us on our Meet the Teacher and Welcome BBQ. We hope the three sessions enabled families to attend a session to meet the teachers and get to know more about what's coming up in the year ahead.
K-6 Parent-Teacher Learning Conference - 'Getting to know my child'
This year we are trialling a new way to host our learning conferences, where we have allocated one day to cater for all families. Our learning conferences will be held on Wednesday 15 March 2023 from 1pm-6pm in the school hall.
All interviews will be 10 minutes in length and is a time for you to share important information about your child and set learning goals with the class teacher/s. We look forward to having all parents and carers attend and work together to ensure every student is known, valued and cared for.

High School Visits
Thank you to our local feeder high school Liverpool Boys and Liverpool Girls for attending our school on Thursday 2 March to share with our Year 6 students and their families the wonderful programs and opportunities they have available for Years 7-12. High school applications for 2024 open this week and both schools are always happy to accomodate school tours.
Special Awards
It’s always wonderful to celebrate achievement and success of those in our school community. A big congratulations Miss Thach and Mrs Ali have recently been awarded with their Proficient Teacher Accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority. The school is so fortunate to have teachers who are dedicated, passionate and committed to the learning and wellbeing of the students at the school. Congratulations to both teachers.
Morning Drop Off and After School Pick Up
Our school gates open at 8:30am each day. This is when teachers are officially on duty. Parents and carers should not be dropping off students prior to this time as they are unsupervised. Prior to 8:30am they are the responsibility of parents and carers. Parents and carers need to stay with their child until 8:30am each day if they arrive before this time. Additionally, school finishes at 3pm each day. Teachers have after school commitments they need to attend to after 3pm. Parents and carers are reminded that we are extremely fortunate to have the YMCA who offer Before and After School Care at Liverpool PS.
For bookings and enrolments call the YMCA Child Care Team on 1300 009 679.

Staffing
I would like to welcome Miss Giang who will be on 3A for the remainder of the year. Both Miss Le and Miss Giang have worked together to ensure a smooth transition for the class. Miss Le has decided that she will be taking another career path. Thank you to Miss Le for her service to our school.
Year 6 to 7 High School Transition
The process for Year 6 to 7 Transition has commenced today Monday 6 March and has moved online. If you would like your child to attend a government high school in 2024, you will need to complete an expression of interest for Year 6 to 7 transition. The expression of interest lets you indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7. After you submit this expression of interest and it has been assessed, your child will be offered a place at a government high school.
Government High School EOI - commence the process for your child to attend a government high school click here.
Placement not required - If your child is not attending a government high school and a placement is not required click here.
More information can be found below around the process and in multiple languages here .

From the Deputy Principal (Stage 2 & Stage 3) - Mrs Alfaro
Welcome to the second part of Term 1. I’m so impressed with the overall behaviour and learning being demonstrated by students Years 3 to Year 6 so far this term. It’s a pleasure to be at the gates in the mornings and the afternoons and to see our students eager to be at school.
This term I’m lucky to be supporting our Library RFF program with Mr D’Cruz on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This is such beautiful teaching space and the classes who I am teaching during this term are loving their new learning space too. Remember, students in Year 3 to Year 6 can borrow up to 3 books from the library each week, so pack your library bag on your library day.
On Thursday 2 March we held an information session for our Year 6 parents. This was to inform them about how to enrol their child for Year 7 in 2024. The enrolment process will be online and needs to be completed in the next few weeks. Information about this has gone home already. If parents are unsure, we have lots of support available. Please contact the school if you need help with your online application for Year 7, in 2024. Liverpool Boys High School and Liverpool Girls High School, our two local high schools also presented information to parents on Thursday about the programs they offer. If you would like more information about these, please contact Mrs Alfaro (Deputy Principal), Ms Dunlop (Assistant Principal Stage 3), or Mrs Young (r. Assistant Principal Stage 3), and they will be able to provide you with more information.
The school dentist finished at our school on Friday 24 February. They will return again later in the year for any students who may have missed out this time.

Congratulations to all of our School Leaders. In the last week, Year 6 students have nominated for student leadership positions across the school, including Sports Captains, Library Leaders and Technology Leaders. This is in addition to our existing School Leaders and SRC representatives. Mrs Young will provide more information about our School Leaders Induction Ceremony.
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in Week 8/.More information will be provided on Facebook and Skoolbag. This is a great opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s teacher and share information. We look forward to meeting with as many parents/carers as possible.
Assembly for students in Year 3 to Year 6 will start in Week 10 with 6D being our first class to host. Parents of 6D are invited to attend. I’m hoping I will have some Deputy Principal Bronze Awards to hand out at that assembly. I look forward to putting photos in our next newsletter.

From the Classroom - KV and Ms Vejzovic
KV has settled into Kindergarten extremely well!
We ae learning to develop friendships and to work with others. Students in KV are learning about routines and structures of school and are developing their knowledge and skills across all key learning areas. They are learning the importance of school and classroom expectations and how to wait their turn. Students are engaging in hands on learning experiences across all key learning areas.
Have a look at how hard KV is learning!
From the Classroom - 1H and Ms Harrison
After a great start to the term, 1H are settled into their new routines and have been doing some fantastic learning! One of our topics in mathematics has been to identify and create repeating patterns. After learning how patterns have a core that repeats at least 3 times, students used concrete materials to explore creating their own repeating patterns. Students were able to create their own AB patterns and some even explored making AAB, ABB and ABC patterns!
From the Classroom - 5G and Mrs Goodbun
5G has had an interesting start of the year, but we are excited and happy to share what we have been doing in Creative Arts. This term we are specifically looking at perspective and how it can be used when creating art. Our first piece of perspective art is an aquarium.
In addition to our perspective art, we have been working on individual items, that have allowed each of us to express our individuality and uniqueness. Students are creating their own desk name labels, and we have also created an abstract self-portrait.

Exciting New Library Makeover
Liverpool Public School students are enjoying our school library as it continues to evolve during its spectacular makeover. It has received brand new carpet and lots of new custom-made furniture. The ergonomically designed seating and study surfaces are comfortable and can be easily positioned into many different configurations to suit several different learning needs, for example we have private study booths, circular areas for group study and an area designed where the whole class can experience enriched learning. There are many Chromebooks available for small groups or whole class activities. The students at our school have enjoyed visiting and using the newly designed library during our school library lessons and lunch times. Watch this space as it enters its final stages of the makeover.
