October 2023
Welcome to October!
Dear Klem South Families,
Is fall really in the air? October may be here, but the temperatures feel a bit more like summer. We certainly hope that you are experiencing some fall fun in our area!
This month is another busy month at Klem South! We kicked off October with school pictures on October 3rd. If you are not satisfied with the first photo, or your child was absent, picture make-ups will be on November 6th. Please save the date!
From September 15 through October 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by recognizing and honoring the many contributions, diverse cultures and extensive histories of Hispanic and Latino Americans. If you have knowledge in this area and would like to share your expertise with our Klem South community, please contact Martha End at martha_end@webstercsd.org. We would love to have parents or community members come into school to share a story, read a book, or present on a topic of your choice. Any ideas are welcomed!
A huge shout out and thank you to our Klem South PTSA and families! Our Fun-Raiser Obstacle course was a great way to kick off the school year! News from the Klem South PTSA
1) Our Fun-draiser has raised about $7,000 so far out of our $20,000 goal. The PTSA will be ending on Monday October 9th. Please help us get as close to our goal as possible. This money will help to pay for all the amazing programming the PTSA provides throughout the year. (I attached the flier with the QR code to this email.)
2) A big thank you to the two Penguin parents who reached out to the Klem South PTSA to volunteer to help out with picture day. We are so grateful. We are always looking for volunteers and are so thankful for everyone's help and support.
3) The Leo's Pies (Local Good) fundraiser information will be coming home next week. This fundraiser has been a Thanksgiving tradition for many years and will help the Klem South PTSA to reach our fundraising goal. I attached an image to this email you can use from last year's order.)
4) Klem South Tasty Tuesday: Sunscape Farms is providing us with sweet peppers and will take place on Tuesday October 10th.

Klem South CAREs
All of our Webster schools share the following CARE expectations. CARE stands for cooperation, accountability, respect and excellence.
Each day, we say the following on the morning announcements:
Be cooperative
Be accountable
Be respectful
Be excellent
Throughout the school year, we learn about what it means to show CARE within our school community. All staff have the ability to nominate students who show CARE at Klem South. When this happens, we read these special nominations on the announcements and send the CARE card home with the students!

News from the Art Room
We are off to a great start in the Art Room. Thank you for bringing in smocks to protect our clothes. We have learned about lines, shapes, and patterns. We are now going to start some fun Fall projects with texture and color!! Hoping your students come home and share some of the fun things we are creating in Art.
1st Grade Leadership at Klem South
The first grade team took on a school leadership role to start off the month of October! October 2nd is national custodian day and the first graders wanted to honor and thank our school custodians for all that they do to keep our school “Spotless.” The whole school made thank-you cards for our wonderful custodians. Some of our first grade students made a bulletin board to show their appreciation for all that our custodians do to keep our school clean and safe.

Red Ribbon Week
Every year, our country celebrates “Red Ribbon Week” from October 23 through
October 30. The Red Ribbon Campaign began in the 1980s as a time for communities
to come together to show their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of
the red ribbon.
Klem South will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with the following schedule of
activities:
While we celebrate this week, it is important that we communicate and reinforce the
message of the importance of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle all throughout the year! As
parents, you have incredible influence on your child’s decision whether or not to use
drugs. Most teens who do not use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, credit their parents
as a major factor in that decision. Now is the time to lay that foundation by having
ongoing family discussions about what is safe, healthy and acceptable.
Klem South Halloween Parade
Come join us for our annual Halloween parade! Students should wear their costumes to school on this day. We recommend having them wear their costume over their clothes. All families are invited to our front bus loop to watch the parade. We will exit the side doors at 8:45 and parade through the bus loop, to the front doors. We look forward to seeing your for this outdoor event!
Please refrain from sending students in any costumes that could scare others, and keep anything that resembles a weapon or that covers your child's full face at home. If your family wishes to have your child participate in an alternate activity during this time, there will be another option provided. Please reach out to your child's teacher to express your desire to have them participate in the alternate activity.
