Federal Service Academies are not for everyone but we encourage those students looking to serve their country and accept a demanding academic schedule to apply. Like all federal service academies, there is no application fee for USMMA.
Our rigorous four-year academic program is highlighted by the Academy’s Sea Year experience. Through this unique program, every student gains real-world leadership experience working aboard commercial ships sailing to ports around the world during three academic terms. Our students pursue a degree in one of five majors offered through two Academic Departments: Marine Engineering and Marine Transportation. Students receive full tuition, room and board, and books at no cost.
Graduates of the United States Merchant Marine Academy earn a Bachelor of Science degree, a U.S. Coast Guard license, and a commission in the United States Armed Forces. Our graduates have an option to work as ship’s officers in the United States maritime industry or serve as commissioned officers on active duty in any branch of service.

Workforce Solutions - Work Based Learning Initiative
Workforce Solutions offers services to individuals 16 - 24 years old. The services include work experience, scholarships and financial aid, tutoring assistance, work/study assistance, employment, career planning, and MUCH MORE! Essentially, this program can allow you to obtain your certification or education in a specific area / field and find employment within that field. You will be guided through the whole process by a mentor who ensures you are on track. Childcare and transportation are provided if needed. There is no way you CANNOT succeed! ACE
The ACE Mentor Program Houston is open to any high school student who has the curiosity and drive to learn about a career in design and construction — from contracting and engineering to architecture and landscaping. Already, thousands of students have enjoyed the exciting projects, informative field trips and other engaging activities that make up the ACE experience free of cost and without any GPA requirements for participation.
ACE Mentor Program Houston are going virtual for the fall and the students will be working on designing a Tree House, from concept to completion! ACE is excited to have the Tree House Master from TV as a guest speaker for the students this year!
ACE Mentor Program Houston gave out over $40k in scholarships and have a lot of opportunities for scholarships for students who are pursuing crafts. They are extremely passionate about making sure students who learn a trade also understands the design, engineering and process behind how and why they execute the work.
The program is 100% free to participate in and all of the mentors are trained and have passed background checks etc.

11th Graders! | Grado 11!
College Prep Scholars Program
Any high school junior, regardless of citizenship, currently attending high school in the U.S. is eligible for the College Prep Scholars Program. Additionally, U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents living abroad are eligible for the program. International students living outside the U.S. are not eligible.
Applicants must be high school juniors who are planning to apply to college during the fall of their senior year.
The deadline is Thursday, March 24.

When should a student register with the NCAA Eligibility Center?
Students should register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at the beginning of their junior year in high school. At the end of the student's junior year, a transcript, including six semesters of grades, should be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center from the high school. Additionally, students should have their SAT or ACT scores forwarded directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center (by using code"9999") whenever they take the exam.
What is the fee to register?
The registration fee for U.S. students is $65;and $95 for international students.Is this fee refundable? All fees are nonrefundable after successful registration. No refunds will be given due to non participation or disinterest at an NCAA Division I or II college or university. In the event a duplicate registration was completed and duplicate payment was processed,you may be eligible for a refund of the duplicate registration fee(s). A completed refund request form must be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center for consideration. You can find the form here.
What requirements do I need to be able to practice, play and get a scholarship at an NCAA Division I or II college or university?
You need to complete the following:
1.Graduate from high school
2.Complete a minimum of 16 (for Division I) or 14 (for Division II) core courses

DUAL CREDIT Students: Do this NOW
LOG IN TO YOUR NEW HCC STUDENT ACCOUNT
This is the page where you add/drop/withdraw from classes. Also referred to as Peoplesoft Student.
· Click on Student Sign-In (black and gold)
· Under gray box, click on “First Time or Forgot My User ID”
· Enter SSN or assigned P# (located in the acceptance letter emailed to you from HCC) and full Date of Birth, click on Retrieve.
· You will now be able to log into the Student System Sign-In using your Username (W#) and your initial password.
· It is with this login that you view your courses, grades, transcript, etc.
· You can see what you are registered for in “Manage Courses,” however you will not be able to access this tile until your checklist is complete.
SET UP YOUR SECURITY QUESTIONS & UPDATE PASSWORD – This step makes it easy to retrieve or reset your password, when needed.
· From the home page, click on the Profile tile. Select – “My System Profile.”
· Start with “change or set up forgotten password help” to set your security question.
CHANGING YOUR PASSWORD
· The temporary password you retrieved above will only work for so long. Chang your password.
· You can change your password while you are on the My System Profile page.
· Once you have changed your password, PLEASE save your W# and your password to the notes in your phone. You might think you will remember it all, but save it just in case. PLEASE! (If you had to use a P# instead of social security # to retrieve your initial password, save the P# also. You will need it in case you ever have to reset your password.
· If you have set your security questions already but did not change your password, you can also change your password following these directions:
o Click on Change Password.
o Enter your username (W in front of your HCC ID#).
o Enter your temporary password, Click Go
o Read the parameter you must follow for your password. Enter your Current temporary password.
§ Password must be a minimum of 8 characters and contain at least one capital letter, one lower case letter, one number, and a special character.
o Enter your new password in both the New and Confirm boxes.
· DO NOT FORGET TO CLICK SAVE!

REGISTERING FOR COURSES AT HCC
Utilize these Step-by-Step instructions for how to enroll in a course through your HCC Student account.
It is important for you to remember, that your HCC account will show that you owe fees when you enroll in a course. PLEASE DO NOT PAY YOUR TUITION FEES TO HCC. However, if your class includes a textbook fee, this will show up as a separate line item when you view details. You ARE required to pay this textbook fee.
LOGGING IN TO EAGLE ONLINE CANVAS
This is the page where your professor posts grades/assignments, etc. for classes you take on your high school campus. Eagle Online Canvas is also where you login to attend class when taking online classes at HCC.
· Click on Eagle Online Canvas
· Enter your HCC email address and system password. Email address is your W#########@student.hccs.edu.

· You will also need to complete the online orientation prior to the start of your online class (each course has its own orientation, so if you are taking multiple classes online, you will need to complete this for all)

FINDING SYLLABUS FOR YOUR COURSE
· Click on Learning Web
· Type in last name of your professor
· Select your professor, by name
· Select the course you are registered for
· Select your syllabus (look at the term, course # (the five-digit number used to enroll in the course).
· Professors are not required to have their syllabus posted until the day prior to the start of the class – so you may not see it until then.
TO SEARCH FOR CLASSES ONLINE
· Click on Class Search
· Select your search parameters
o Term
o Acad Career should be semester credit hour
o Subject
o Instruction Mode – if you have a preference
§ In Person – this means the class is face-to-face. You go to the campus and attend the class on the days/time indicated in the course description
§ Online Anytime – Students take the class online at any time of the day. This is a traditional online class and students do not go to the campus.
§ Online on a Schedule – Students take the class at the scheduled class time for the section enrolled. Students do not go to the HCC campus, but log into their class on the scheduled dates and times.
§ Hybrid – This is a combination of face-to-face and online. Students normally attend their class online, but also report to the HCC campus at least once each week.
· Click on Search
o There are additional search option below this box that you can use if you want a specific location or campus or session. If you use these options, you can choose them before or after you click on the search button (but if after, click search again).
· Make note of the five-digit section number that you need when you complete your registration. As you are looking at different sections for one course (example PSYC 2301), you will see a list of the different sections like this: Section: 001-LEC (11994). 11994 is the five-digit section number you would need.
· You can click on each section to see more information on the class, including how many open spots are available. Notes on this page regarding textbooks is important. Some courses at HCC have an inclusive textbook fee. This means that the textbook will be available to you on the first day of class. You will see a separate bill in your HCC account for this textbook.
PREPARATION FOR THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS
1. Check your class schedule in Peoplesoft Student to ensure you are enrolled
2. Access the HCC Learning Web to review the syllabus for an instructor and other course related materials.
3. Review the textbook information; books can be purchased online through the HCC bookstore, HCC Barnes and Noble, or at one of the HCC campuses. Or your professor may have other options so check the syllabus.
4. If you are taking a F2F class, print your parking permit by logging into Peoplesoft Student
5. Obtain an HCC Student Identification Card; take your current school ID and a copy of your fee receipt to the Cashier’s office on the following days and times at the Stafford and West Loop campuses: Tues-Thurs 10am-1pm and 3pm-6pm.
a. To print a fee receipt, log into Peoplesoft Student and look under “Finances.” Click on Student Account by Term and select the current term.
TUTORING SERVICES
HCC offers free tutoring services, both face-to-face and online to their students. Dual Credit students are also eligible for these free tutoring services. Students can access tutors specializing in a specific area on-campus or online. HCC’s Tutoring Services.
Our HCC representative is Mr. Harris. He will be in 229 to assist with any HCC questions Tuesdays at 8:00am!

The STEM Zone Saturday experience offers students the opportunity to explore a variety of science and engineering careers by networking with UH Faculty members and external industry partners.
Program Benefits
All registrants receive a STEM Kit that provides tangible materials used to explore during the program’s instruction which is led by UH Faculty, external industry partners, and UH STEM Center Outreach Squad members who are undergraduate and graduate students representing various STEM disciplines. The provision of STEM Kits that are hands-on and minds-on is crucial to ensure that the level of instructional rigor is focused on real – world concepts that sets a tone of excellence and scientific achievement for the students to experience.
Volunteer Opportunities
Faculty members, student organizations, industry professionals are encouraged to contact the UH STEM Center at 713-743-4799 to inquire about the opportunity to host presentations during the STEM Zone Saturday Program. This program also benefits National Honor Society high school students who are looking to fulfill their volunteer expectations and will acquire leadership training on mentoring as well as instructional content.
