Principal's Message
It was wonderful to see so many families at Back to School Night! Thank you all for taking the time to see your child's classroom and hear from teachers about this coming year. We know that schedules are challenging with sports and other activities so if you weren't able to make it, please remember you can always touch base with your child's teacher at any time.
Today marked our very first BEST Day! BEST Day stands for Behavior Expectation Station Training day. The entire school went through a station rotation to learn and be reminded of the rules and expectations for every part of campus. As a staff we are focused on helping kids be safe, responsible, respectful and kind no matter where they are or what they're doing during the school day. It was awesome to see kids and staff move about campus modeling positive behavior so that all of our Sequoia Giants know what is expected, hear the same language from all staff members and feel safe and secure at school. BEST Day was a success!
As you heard last night at Back to School Night we have a few committees getting started this year as a result of parent interest. First, our Healthy Kids Campaign group is going to be meeting soon and we are looking for more parents that might be interested in joining. This group is focused on looking at programs and activities we can implement at Sequoia that will help students (and families!) make healthy choices. Second, we are putting together a Safety Committee of parents and staff that will help give us a wider lens on school safety. Each year I work with the RVCS Director to update our school safety plan. As a school, we do drills each month to make sure that staff and students know what to do in case of any type of emergency. The safety committee’s purpose will be to discuss all the parts of our school safety plan and to work with SRPD to make our campus as safe as possible for staff and students. Lastly, we have a Garden Group of parents and staff members that are looking at our garden program and how we can make it a great place of learning and fun for our students. If you are interested in any of these groups please email me and I will keep you apprised of upcoming meetings.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Clark
