Winter Testing Window
We will be entering the 2nd week of our winter testing window. The MAP test evaluates students in grades K-8 on Math and Reading skills. AIMSweb tests students on reading fluency. Please help to ensure that students are getting plenty of rest and a good breakfast before coming to school. Learn more about District 58 assessments here.
Holiday Service Project 12/10!

Holiday Pancake Breakfast
The PTA sponsored Holiday Pancake Breakfast will take place on Saturday, December 14th from 9:30-11. Please see the attached document for more details.

Families, please consider filling out the 5Essentials Survey this year. Your feedback is so important to us! Hearing from you allows us to know what we are doing well and how we can improve. 5th and 6th Grade Families - Save the Date
Our 5th and 6th graders have been working very hard with Mrs. Coates in music class for their upcoming performance. Please save the date for Tuesday, December 17th at 9:00 AM. Our 5th and 6th graders will be singing, and families are invited!

Science Fair
Science Fair registration will be coming up soon. Registration will be open Monday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 22. Please see the email that was sent by Megan Hewitt on November 22nd for more details.
DGN Hosts Play Auditions for Elementary Students
Downers Grove North High School will be hosting auditions for their upcoming play, the Music Man. They are looking for one elementary male student and one elementary female student. Auditions will be held on December 14th. See the link for more information.
Orchesis Dance Company at DGN
Open to all students from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Students will learn a dance to perform in one of the two showcases presented during the following week. See the link for more details.
Save the Date! PTA Fundraiser
The PTA would like you to save the date for their spring fundraiser. This will take place on Saturday, March 14th from 6PM-11PM at the American Legion in Downers Grove. See the attached document for more details.
Reflections Ceremony
Thank you to our students who participated in the PTA Reflections contest. Our students submitted work in the areas of visual arts, photography, literature, and dance choreography. Students were recognized this week at Herrick Junior High during the Reflections Ceremony. Congratulations!
Classroom Happenings
5th Grade
5th grade students continue to lead weekly class meetings where students collaborate and solve problems in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
3rd Grade
Mr. Marzo, our Watch DOG, supported 3rd grade students with their habitat dioramas.
Kindergarten
During the "Gingerbread Memory" center, students worked on subitizing with either a domino or tens frame on one side and numerals on the other. This was their favorite center this week!
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is having fun this week with gingerbread man themed center activities.
2nd Grade Art
Students are exploring graphic design techniques through digital art. Their essential questions are "How do artists and designers learn from trial and error?" and "How do artists and designers care for and maintain materials, tools and equipment?"
4th Grade
Mrs. Waszak got to join in as a character during Readers Theater!
