JCSD Thanksgiving Hours & Closures
Wednesday, Nov, 21: All schools closed; the district office will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 22: All schools and offices closed; Happy Thanksgiving!
Friday, Nov. 23: All schools and offices closed.
All staff and students return to class on Monday, Nov. 26 at the normal time. Have a safe and enjoyable break!
Emergency Notification Testing is Tuesday
The district will be testing its emergency notification systems in preparation for winter weather on Tuesday, November 20 at 4 p.m. All notification lines for each student and employee in the district will be tested, including phone, email, text message, and mobile app. Additionally, notifications will be posted on social media (Facebook, Twitter) and the district website, similar to what would be done during severe weather.

Johnston VPA is once again offering Encore Cards for $15. These cards offer great discounts at several Johnston businesses including Casey's, Climb Iowa, Cozy Café, Cupcake Addict, Gusto Pizza, Jethro's, La'James, Papa John's Pizza, Martinizing Dry Cleaners, Purple Poppy Boutique, Rich's Brew, Sarah's Hallmark, ShortE's BBQ, Soleil Tan Spa, The UPS Store and Watch & Clock Junction. Funds raised from the sale of these cards goes towards scholarships and the support of the vocal program in the Johnston School District. SAVE THE DATE: JCSD Superintendent Search Listening Forums
As the Johnston Board of Education prepares for a superintendent search in 2019, they are inviting members of the school community to participate in listening forums to gain insight as to the qualities the next superintendent of our district should possess. All forums will be moderated by Heartland AEA staff.
Each forum is geared toward a specific audience; however, all are open to whomever can come on a given date/time. Please watch for more information on the district website and your email. In the meantime, mark your calendars for the following dates:
- Monday, Dec. 3 @ Summit Cafetorium; 4:15 p.m. for staff and 5:30 p.m. for administrators
- Wednesday, Dec. 5 @ Wallace Auditorium; 5:30 p.m. for staff and 7 p.m. for parents/community
- Monday, Dec. 10 @ Administrative Resource Center board room; 5 p.m. for parents/community

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Construction Update: David Dominguez (Stahl Construction) reported that on both the softball and baseball fields the perimeters have been drained, the scoreboards are up, and sports lights are up. Concrete work on the footings and dugouts will proceed during the cold weather.
The ARC project will go back to re-bid in early January after the original project bids came in too high and changes to the building layout and design were discussed.
Superintendent Goals: Laura Kacer, interim superintendent, discussed Goal #4, Teacher Evaluation Framework Adoption. She led board members through an activity designed to identify the different proficiency levels in teaching, similar to what would be done in an actual evaluation.

There is only one December board meeting and it will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Johnston Administrative Resource Center, 5608 Merle Hay Rd., Johnston IA.
