Stonegate Elementary Newsletter
November 4, 2023
Dear SGE Families,
We have many things to celebrate! First, our students for their learning and doing the RIGHT thing in quarter 1. Secondly, our family partnerships for taking time out of busy schedules to meet with teachers and to facilitate an E-Day. Next week, we continue the celebration with our Veterans.
We want to thank the Zionsville West Orchestra for sending a group of students to perform at our whole school assembly. The students listened the RIGHT way and it was nice to see some past SGE faces. We also want to thank our lovely PTO for providing lunch for the teachers during conferences. Stonegate is lucky to have you!
Here are the highlights regarding the upcoming week and further details are included below:
- Sunday: Veteran Name Deadline- Please use the link below to submit names of Veterans to be celebrated in our video.
- Fall Back- Daylight Savings Time ends and we fall back an hour on Sunday. Please be mindful of this for an on time arrival to SGE on Monday, November 6th.
- PTO Food Drive- This week is our food drive! Please send in pantry items any day next week.
- Veterans Day Celebration- We will celebrate Veterans Day on Friday. If you plan to attend, please pre-register to minimize your wait.
Again, thank you for your partnership. Enjoy the weekend!

Roll out the red carpet
The red carpet was rolled out this morning to celebrate our students doing the right thing and treating people RIGHT! Students and staff gathered in the gym for a special convocation to celebrate our Golden Tickets for the first quarter. Students receive golden tickets from staff when they are noticed being Responsible, having Integrity, being Gracious, Helpful or Tenacious! This quarter, our students turned in a total of 1, 707 golden tickets! As a special treat, a group of students from Zionsville West Orchestra played a few pieces for our celebration.
Friday Five
Each Friday, one golden ticket is drawn from the Responsible, Integrity, Gracious, Helpful, and Tenacious buckets. Below are the students who were drawn this first quarter! Way to do the RIGHT thing, and treat each other RIGHT!
Family Assistance Form
When basic needs are met, students are better able to focus on education and learning. Therefore, there is assistance available for our students and their families to help with various needs that may arise throughout the school year. If you are currently in need of assistance, please fill out this Family Assistance form. This information will be kept in strictest confidence.
Warmly,

Donations
Halloween Candy
Too much Halloween candy leftover? We'd love to take it off your hands. Feel free to donate candy to the Stonegate Staff. Our staff members enjoy being able to get a little sweet treat from our candy bowl now and then. Thank you!
Stock the Lounge & SGE Team Wishlist
Our office team has created an Amazon Wish List. We would love your support in two important ways.
First, our staff works so hard every day. To show our appreciation, help us “stock the lounge” with their favorite snacks all year long! Next, we have also added in items that would be helpful to our team and used in a variety of ways.
PTO Information
Food Drive
Our annual Stonegate Food Drive is next week. Let's support our neighbors in need by collecting non-perishable food items November 6-10. These items will be taken to our local Zionsville Food Pantry.
All donations are welcome. However, the pantry is in specific need of the following items: laundry detergent, toilet paper, kleenex, Jiffy corn mix, pancake mix, canned fruit, peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, spaghetti sauce, and jello. The pantry cannot accept expired food, so please check dates on all of your items! Donations may be sent in with your student or be dropped off in the school office.
Fall Spirit Wear
Stonegate Eagles spirit wear store is LIVE! Support your Eagles by purchasing items from our spirit wear store, which will close on Friday, November 17th. All orders will be sent home via “backpack mail” unless you select the “GIFT” option at checkout; in which case your order will be available for pickup at the front office. Items will arrive before winter break. Order here: https://sgefall23.itemorder.com/shop/home/

Scholastic Book Fair
Our Fall Book Fair is quickly approaching! Please see the information below on how you can help raise money and provide books for our school!
DATES: November 14-17 (your child’s teacher will communicate the day and time that their class is visiting the Book Fair)
PAYMENT: Please send in cash, check (made payable to Stonegate PTO) OR purchase an eWallet for your child to use on our Scholastic homepage at https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/SGESpring2023 The eWallets are a simple way for children to pay and easy to set up!
COMMUNITY HOURS: The Book Fair will be open to the COMMUNITY on Tuesday November 14th from 3-5pm and Wednesday November 15th from 5-7pm. Please enter through Door 11 (back of the building). This is a wonderful chance for families to visit together and for families with preschool age children or incoming kindergarteners to come into the school. Help us spread the word!
REMINDERS: Based on changes with Scholastic, sales tax is now collected with all purchases. PLEASE plan accordingly if your child has specific items they would like to purchase! In addition, each student can purchase UP TO 2 NON-BOOK ITEMS during their classroom visit. This will ensure more students are leaving with books and save some of the small items for students that shop at the end of the book fair!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Please click the link for an opportunity to help at the Book Fair! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050D4DACAE2DA1FF2-45569829-fall
Additional Information from SGE and ZCS
Mrs. Torrance's Monthly Wellness Challenge
This month's Wellness Fitness Challenge is all about GIVING THANKS and DOING PLANKS! The fitness focus is on improving our core strength and one of the best exercises for that is the plank. Core strength is the foundation of movement and balance. When children specifically have poor core strength, they have difficulty with both gross motor (running, jumping, and active play) and fine motor skills (i.e. handwriting, cutting). Poor core strength can also hamper a child's posture and negatively impact their ability to pay attention. This month's challenge offers many variations for interest and challenge. Also, in the spirit of the season, it offers a great opportunity to reflect and acknowledge everyone and everything we are thankful for. I hope this month's challenge, like all others, offers an opportunity for your family to EMBRACE WELLNESS CHALLENGES to get STRONGER TOGETHER! You can print the challenge to return at the end of the month or send me a Parent Square message to let me know your child(ren) completed the challenge.
Lunch Guests Sign Up!
SGE is now ready to welcome our K-4 Lunch Guests! Here's how it works:
- Due to limited space, we are happy to welcome one special visitor with each student for a total of four different guests per grade level.
- Sign-up to reserve your spot by clicking here.
We have "Visitor Tables" in the front foyer that you will sit at with your child during their lunch time.
Visitor and Volunteer Procedures
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
