Principal's Message
At TABSE I heard a powerful keynote speaker reference the following statement, “If you see something, say something”, which I previously believed to be related only to national security issues. However, I thought the statement was fitting in light of the recent tragedies that have plagued our schools. It was obvious that this statement provoked a sense of urgency in all who attended. As I listened further, the speaker, who had been a kindergarten teacher, shared how she greeted her students by whispering to each one, “Shhhhh, you are in the smart kid’s class” as they entered through her door. By creating the environment and making the statement to each student, she defined their reality. Her students believed they were smart. Last week we asked schools to provide plans to address attendance, culture and discipline, as well as review the impact these actions have on academic data. My challenge to each of you, if actions do not yield results that positively impact academics, attendance, climate and culture of the students most in need, then employ a since of urgency. Do not let the inept practice define their reality.
