EMBRYOLOGY: THE BEGINNING OF LIFE!
The LCPS Science Office, in partnership with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, offered the 4-H Embryology project to LCPS schools, including Aldie Elementary this spring. First and fourth grade students served as hosts and cared for fertilized eggs during the first weeks of May. Students were excited to witness the beginning of life for three chicks they named Cupcake, Shadow and Marshmallow.
CONGRATULATIONS TO 5TH GRADE DARE GRADUATES!
Thank you to Deputy Kamp and Lieutenant Buckman for making this day a special occasion for 5th grade students and their guests. We are proud of your accomplishment and your committment to the DARE program.
PREPARING FOR BOOK CLUBS WITH A TASTING!
As part of the English Language Arts curriculum, fifth grade students participate in collaborative book clubs each spring. Mrs. Lerch helped students choose books with a special "Book Tasting" at the Aldie Mill. Aldie Heritage Association members and fifth grade parents joined the tasting and helped students preview various books in preparation for the book club unit of study.
SOL TESTING SCHEDULE
Spring SOL testing is scheduled for third, fourth and fifth grade students. See the school calendar for specific testing dates (April 19-April 29). Unlike paper and pencil tests, where all students are asked the same questions and spend a fixed amount of time taking the test, the SOL test an online computer adaptive test. That means every student gets a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions get harder. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. The testing schedule is below. We ask parents to avoid scheduling appointments or early dismissals on testing days and appreciate your support. Please contact Mrs. Stephens with any questions about SOL testing at Aldie Elementary School.

SEL FOCUS: BUILDING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
This week, we are connecting our knowledge of collaboration with our new problem solving skills. We know that collaboration helps the group complete a goal together, but now we will learn how to combine our social awareness skills and collaboration to help us consider different perspectives or ideas.
At Home SEL Challenge:
Next time the family is making a decision- like deciding to watch a show together, ask your child to share their perspective by asking, “What made you choose ____?”
SEL Family Resource:
Elementary Family Communication provides a complete overview of the Second Step curriculum by grade level. Click here to access the guide.
