JCPS Goal: By the end of the 2023-24 school year, 100% of Johnston County Public Schools will earn a school letter grade of A, B, or C.
Our vision:
SES students are life-long learners encouraged by home, school, and the community. They will meet the challenges and high expectations of an ever-changing world. They will work to their fullest potential to make a positive difference in the school, community, and the world.
Welcome to Our Family and Community Newsletter
Dear Selma Elementary Families,
Welcome to our March edition! We want to thank our families for attending our 2nd APTT family engagement event. We appreciate your commitment to working together for our students.
This month we are celebrating Read Across America. We are happy to collaborate with Selma Middle's Honor Society students. They will be visiting our school and reading to our students. We have volunteer community members coming in to read in multiple classrooms as well. We are excited about this great community effort.
Families, it is time to submit our Capturing Kids Heart National Showcase application. We are working diligently to compile the required information but we need your help. Please complete this second parent survey: For the survey CLICK HERE. Thank you!
Our Parent, Teacher, and Community Organization (PTCO) is searching for a Vice President. If you are interested please contact our PTCO via email at selmaelementary.ptco@gmail.com, our Parent Engagement Coordinator, Ms. Whitnee Chattman, at whitneeChattman@johnston.k12.nc.us, or call our school (919) 965-3361.
The benefits and joy of face-to-face instruction are evident on our campus. Thank you for your strength and care. Please know we appreciate you and we are to serve you.
Respectfully,
Ms. Rosado

Mayor McAllister & the Selma Town Council Visit Selma E!
Our students asked some awesome questions and got advice about working hard, finding things that interest you, and making a difference to others! They were so impressed they spent time getting autographs and talking to the mayor & council afterward. We nearly had to pull several of them away to go back to class! Thank you to Councilmember William Overby, Mayor Pro-Tem Joe Scarboro, Mayor Byron McAllister, Councilmember Amy West Whitley, Councilmember Bruce McKay, and special thanks to Jacqueline Lacy for spending your morning with us! We know they are very busy and have a lot of hard work to do for Selma and its citizens, but our Yellowjackets loved spending time with you!

MARCH 2022: Read Across America at SES
CKH Social Contract Focus Word
We will continue to highlight our social contract focus word of the month and challenge our SES family to participate in challenges related to the word each week. The focus words are concepts commonly found on social contracts and will help to keep us all focused on upholding the things we’ve agreed to do and value. Each month the word is different and every week students can participate in challenges that allow them to practice the social contract focus word of the month. Any and every student, family, and staff member can do the challenges! The social contract focus word this month is courage. Please take a look at the challenges for this month and discuss or participate with your child at home.
Focus word of the month challenges for March can be found here.
CKH Parent and Family Tips
Practice Capturing Kids Hearts at Home!
Please read the March Capturing Kids Hearts Newsletter It is important for kids to know that courage is not a magical remedy for fear. Instead, courage is a choice to push through fear, self-doubt, and anxiety to do things that feel hard or frightening. Courage may mean being kind to the new kid in class, trying something new, or speaking up for something or someone. Often, these things don’t come with fireworks or applause. In fact, they rarely do. But, with one courageous act at a time, kids can positively impact their school, community, and our world! Please take a look at the March CKH Newsletter. It provides some ideas on how to demonstrate courage.
