Cheetah Chatter

A Note from Our Administrators
Hello CRES families!
The last two weeks have been filled with fun, excitement, a little bit of nerves, and a LOT of great learning! We were so excited to welcome our 1-5 grade students into the building last Friday, and our Kindergarten students started earlier this week. Chapman's Retreat is in Full Swing!
Here are some of the highlights from the past two weeks:
- The Cheetah Social brought hundreds of our families to the school for an evening of fun, food, and fellowship.
- Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade parent orientations were a huge success!
- The PTO held a BooHoo Breakfast to ease the hearts and souls of our kindergarten parents.
- Safety Patrol began for our 5th grade leaders.
In this edition of Cheetah Chatter, please look for:
- Student Handbook - please read it thoroughly, as there are some changes from previous years.
- Elementary World Language Program information
- Run Club Information (Including Grey Ghost Registration!!!)
- Ways to support the PTO
- Information about our School Social Worker
- Important events in the next few weeks.
Important Reminders:
- Please remember that our doors do not open until 8:25 each morning. Please do not drop your child off before that time, as we do not have staff members available to monitor them.
- Safety Patrol students should not arrive until 8:25. Please do not drop your Safety Patrol member off earlier.
- Thank you in advance for your patience next week as our kindergarten students begin FULL-TIME, and our arrival and dismissal times will be longer than usual.
Thanks for your continued support!

Art Room Buzz
Welcome back to school Chapman’s Families! Art is back in the Art Room, and we are ready to get messy. Please be aware of your student’s art day and dress appropriately. Everything we use is washable, but it is not wise to don your best clothes in which to paint. If you wish to send a “smock” (oversized t-shirt) for your student to wear, over their clothes, feel free to do so. We have big plans this year that include painting, clay, weaving and printmaking. Be sure to watch for your child’s work on their digital portfolio in Artsonia.
Classes have been talking about art room procedures and rules. We have also started self-portraits which will be finished when time allows. Next week class will be:
- Kindergarten: Introduction to the art room and paper sculpture.
- 1st grade: Review Elements of Art (Line, shape and color) utilizing paint to create a Kandinsky inspired apple.
- 2nd grade: Read Peter Reynold’s The Dot. Using paint and a variety of brushes create your own dot.
- 3rd grade: Warm and cool color in landscape painting.
- 4th grade: Value scale in paint.
- 5th grade: Discuss the history of clay and create an animal pinch pot
Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions. Thank you!

If your child will be a car rider, you will need to take Ferguson Road and proceed to the front of the school for drop-off and pick-up.
The bus loop located in the back of the building is reserved for school buses only.
Pick-up in the afternoon will require that the adult present the CRES Car Rider Tag with your child's name. Car Tags can be picked at the Cheetah Social on August 4.
