Term 2 Week 2 May 2023

Principal Report

Welcome Back

It has been a positive start to Term 2. It was great to welcome students back and hear about their holiday adventures and the chocolate overload of Easter eggs.

Last week students received their Cross Country ribbons, with many students preparing for Zone Cross Country next Friday. Good luck to the students competing at zone.

Staff returned last Monday and spent the day learning and connecting with staff from across 6 different schools at Bateau Bay Public School. It has been great to already see this learning having an impact in classrooms across the school.

ANZAC Dawn Service

Thank you to all students and their families who joined us at the ANZAC Dawn Service in Terrigal. I was very proud to stand beside Ms Bailey and our students, to represent the Erina Heights community at this service. It was lovely to have so many students in attendance, representing our school with pride. Student leaders laid a wreath on behalf of our school community, to pay our respects in acknowledging and honouring the service and sacrifices of our defence personnel.

Term 2 Calendar

To try and help with getting organised for the week ahead, we have introduced a ‘What’s happening this week’ that will be posted on Dojo each Monday morning. This will outline the events that are planned for the week ahead.

We look forward to another busy term ahead, with some exciting events planned for the coming weeks. Next week we have our first Disco for the year as well as our Mother’s Day stall and Mother’s Day breakfast. Students will also be heading off to Zone Cross Country which is nice and close at Duffey’s this year. This means that students and families will be able to attend the Mother’s Day breakfast prior to heading down to Duffey’s for the carnival.

Disabled toilet upgrade

You may have seen works happening to our old bubbler shed at the end of last term. Schools Infrastructure NSW have worked closely with the school to have this space transformed into a new disabled toilet with a shower and change facilities. This is a large space that will be utilised by students now and in the future who require assistance with toileting and will also be accessible by parents and our community when visiting the school.

Kindergarten's First Excursion

Snakes, crocodiles and snapping turtles - not a normal day at Erina Heights Public School

Our curious Kindergarten students had a very insightful day at the Australian Reptile Park on Thursday May 4. There were lots of brave students patting lizards, alligators, turtles and snakes and putting any fears aside surrounded by their wonderful friends and excited to touch something ‘scary and dangerous’. They met many creatures including Rosie the very friendly alligator who loved a kiss or two and could do tricks including laying down on command. They learnt that the shell of a tortoise is made of keratin which is the same thing that a humans fingernails are made from. Some of the many highlights shared was the bus ride which was a first for many students, a lost tooth for Ashton and the amazing playground we got to explore at lunchtime.

Mrs Calverley

Central Coast Choral Festival

On Wednesday May 3, our Erina Heights Public School Choir joined 12 other "Concert A" schools at Avoca Beach PS for our first combined schools' rehearsal for the Central Coast Choral Festival. Over Term 1 the choir learnt a repertoire of 6 songs in preparation and at the rehearsal we had a full day of learning, singing and refining these songs.

The choir sounds beautiful. The students have done an amazing job learning the words and music to these songs. I am very proud of the way they performed and sang at our rehearsal. Students also had the opportunity to audition for solo parts.

This term we have 7 new songs to learn in preparation for our second combined schools' rehearsal to be held at Ettalong PS on Thursday July 27.

We are excited to perform at the Wyong Art House in the Central Coast Choral Festival mass choir on October 24.

Voluntary School Contributions

Like all NSW public schools, we can request contributions to enhance our educational and sporting programs including elective subjects. School contributions help provide additional educational resources for the benefit of students. The contribution is set at $40 per student or $100 per family of three or more. While contributions are voluntary, student resources are maximised when each family makes its voluntary contribution.

SchoolBytes

We have gone digital with our permission notes! All permission notes can now be completed online via the SchoolBytes Portal. To access the portal go to the following address in a web browser https://portal.schoolbytes.education

The first time you visit the page you will need to register with the email address you have provided to the school.

All excursions, incursions and extra curricular activities that require permisssion to attend will be listed under the activities tab and will need online consent prior to payment. Any paymnet that does not require permission, such as voluntary school contributions and online licences will appear under the statements tab.
