LHR 7th Grade At-Home Learning
Week 6: April 27 - May 1, 2020
Principal Message
Welcome to Week 6 of At-Home Learning at L.H. Rather. I want to let you know that my heart is breaking for our students, teachers, families and for our community. I was really hoping that I would be able to see our students again before the school year ended. I love our students and love interacting with them on campus. That being said, I understand why the Governor made the decision and I support our commitment to flattening the curve for COVID-19. We will continue to work hard to provide the best At-Home Learning experiences for our students and make weekly contact to check on the academic progress and social-emotional well-being of all L.H. Rather students.
Remember: If you struggle on a particular assignment, or are not happy with your "score" on an assignment, you need to join your teacher during "office hours" or call their Google Voice number so he/she can go over the assignment with you for "tutoring/corrections". These conversations between students and teachers are a very important way for teachers to determine whether the student is demonstrating progress in learning and they often give teachers much more information than just a percent score on an assignment.
If I can be of any help to you and your family at this time, please let me know. Together we are better!
I miss you guys,
Mrs. Daniel

7th Math
This week students will be completing all missing assignments and a vocabulary review assignment in Google Classroom. If a student has missing assignments from a previous week, they are to complete those assignments first. I have emailed all students (using their Google email) to notify them if they have a missing assignment.
Once all missing assignments are completed or if you did not have any missing assignments, you can move onto the assignment in Google Classroom. In Google Classroom, there is an assignment labeled “Week 6: Vocabulary Slides''. This will take students to Google Slides. Students are to complete the Frayer Model choosing 2 vocabulary words from the list provided.
Before students begin working on the Google Slides assignment, please watch the video that is linked. The video will help students understand what they are expected to complete for the week.
If students regularly have the questions read to him/her, please call me during my office hours and I will assist.
If you have any questions, please email me, text me, or call me.

7th Grade Social Studies
This week for Social Studies we are going to continue our preparations for 8th grade. The content we will be working with over the next couple of weeks is going to be The Revolutionary War. This week we will have a “Wk. 6 Writing Activity” and a “Wk. 6 Vocabulary Activity”. You will use the “Unit 2 PowerPoint Notes” to help with both assignments. Log into Google Classroom with your school email and password (the same one you use to log in to the Chromebook at school). Once logged in you will use the PowerPoint to help you to do the two assignments. Both assignments will be turned in through Google Classroom…once you have finished the assignment, return to the Google Classroom page, attach your work, and then click turn in. Once you have it turned in the box to the right will say “turned in”.
Assignment 1: “Wk. 6 Writing Activity”
You will be writing a letter to your cousin Eddie. Cousin Eddie lives in the New England Colonies and you live either in the Middle or Southern Colonies. You will tell him about your life there and how it is different from his. Make sure you use at least 3 vocabulary terms.
Assignment 2: “Wk. 6 Vocabulary Activity”
Use the Unit 2 PowerPoint and the vocabulary you defined during week 4 to answer the questions. You will have to create your own document and number it to match the Quizlet activity.
7th Science
During this sixth week of at home learning, in 7th Grade Science, we will begin CATASTROPHIC EVENTS. Your assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, ultimately taking you to StemScopes for your main assignments, in addition to other assignments that will support your learning. Your grade will come from the assigned activities. If you do not do well on your assignments the first time, you will have the opportunity to redo that assignment.
To access your assignments, you will log into your Google Classroom account for Science using your BonhamISD student gmail account, click the new assignment in Google Classroom, click the link to StemScopes, and use your login information for StemScopes, and complete the assignments assigned to you. For most of you, your login information for StemScopes is your lunch number for the Username, and your lunch number for the Password. If it is different, a private message went out to you in Google Classroom the first week of at home learning. Be sure to also complete any additional assignments in Google Classroom, in addition to the assignments in Stemscopes.
If you have any questions, join me in video during my ‘office hours’, call me at 314-635-0949, or email me at clint.ashlock@bonhamisd.org.
Note:
Students who have Mrs. Frazier, Ms. Winkels, Mrs Cox, Mrs. Gordon or Mr. Parker will no longer pick up their personalized At-Home Learning packet, due to mail delivery each week. Please contact those teachers if you have any questions.
Bonus Activity - Consumer Science (OPTIONAL)
During the beginning of the year we spent time learning about the importance of healthy eating. We talked about the “Choose My Plate,” proper portion sizes, differences in traditional foods and cultural eating habits. Now that we are having to make the choice to eat-in instead of dining out, I want to challenge you! Remembering all the things we have talked about regarding food, I want
you to create a Quarantine Cuisine meal. Log into my google classroom for more details to complete this assignment. If you need help logging into my classroom feel free to visit my office hours or email me at amanda.dematos@bonhamisd.org.
Bonus Activity - PE (PTIONAL)
This week you will have two activities to keep you moving.
Activity #1-Upright:
Lay a laundry basket on its side. Roll a sock-ball underhand into the basket to make it stand upright. If the ball stays inside it's 3 points. If it rolls out it's 1 point.
Activity #2-Bull's Eye:
Place a laundry basket 10 feet away. Underhand toss a sock-ball into the basket to score points.
BISD Choir Variety Show Information!
Hello, everyone!
Just a heads-up: We’re going to try something NEW with our Variety Show this year. It’s still open to all faculty, staff, and students at Bonham ISD (all campuses), but because we can’t meet in person, we’re going to take submissions of anything entertaining for a chance to win gift cards to local businesses and restaurants. We’re looking for dancing, singing, magic tricks, jokes, poetry, acting, gymnastics, anything interesting and entertaining!!!! The videos can be 20 seconds long or much longer. We’re going to post them on the BHS and LHR Choirs Facebook pages and get the public involved in watching and rooting for you. How do you win the gift cards? All you have to do is submit a video of yourself and your skill/talent that is school-appropriate and entertaining to watch to get in the drawing. There can only be one submission per person. The sky’s the limit!
The cut-off for submissions will be Friday, May 1, 2020 at 1PM. We look forward to viewing your various talents and fun videos that show your skills!
Email anna.waller@bonhamisd.org for submissions and questions.
