The EDGE program is now accepting applications for the 2021-22 School Year. EDGE is a post-secondary experience tailored to assist students in preparing for adult life. Our staff works with students who have already completed their high school graduation credits to become young adults, more prepared for the world outside OSSB. Our team will work with EDGE students on vocational, social, communication, and independent living skills to enhance independence. Applications are due back on February 12, 2021. See application attached to this newsletter!

Send in Your Favorite Chocolate Dessert recipes
Just a reminder to send chocolate recipes to lyoung-dove@osdb.oh.gov by February 8th for the 26th annual OSSB Chocolate Fair recipe 'book'. Thanks for your help keeping the Chocolate Fair tradition going in a new way this year; hopefully, next year we will be back in full swing!

The Mayflower Was How Big??
Ms. McCumber’s class recently learned about the size of the Mayflower by measuring out the approximate feet of its length and width. They then used that information to calculate the entire square footage. After that, they calculated the square footage that each passenger had on the ship. This then led to a discussion about how that area would be further decreased by different factors such as the supplies, provisions, and cargo, seasickness, or if weather forced everyone below deck. Photo shows the students outside OSSB with their winter coats and hats, taking notes and calculating square footage of the Mayflower. Dorms and the original building are in the background.

After School Clubs/Dorm Rec Update
This quarter, our after-school clubs are off to a great start. We have a total of 8 clubs happening virtually, and in addition, there are opportunities for students to participate with their dorm pods, and enjoy some rec room activities.
We recently spruced up the residential recreation room and now have a video game area, space to socialize and play board games, bumper pool, basketball shootout, and also air hockey. This gives the students an opportunity to still practice being socially distant AND engage in activities outside their dorms. We even had the opportunity to take a couple of students, one at a time, out to ride the adapted bikes throughout the school. Shown in the photo is OSSB Senior, Wyatt riding a green adapted bicycle.
Make sure to check out the OSSB Podcast included in this newsletter, to hear students in the OSSB After School Podcast Club and to learn more about the clubs available to OSSB students.
OSSB is once again hosting Ohio State University students who are going to become future Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI's), and those students are leading virtual activities with dorms on a weekly basis. ~Ms. Sally Williams
Zoom Into Physical Fitness Friday
OSSB staff are offering Fitness Fridays on Zoom. Each week, new and exciting exercise routines will be offered to participate in. To maximize the health benefits, full and active participation is a must. Be ready to sweat! The sessions will start at 9:30 am and run for approximately 45 minutes. Proper dress is required – tennis shoes and exercise clothes. You may want to keep a water bottle nearby during the activity. We encourage everyone to join - it will be a fun time!
