The Leader In Me
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Beginning with the end in mind means that we take time to define our vision and purpose clearly. We have the opportunity to define outcomes before we act. We can make choices that can shape our future, rather than leaving it up to other people or circumstances. Habit 2 aligns with the principles of vision, commitment, and purpose.

Tips for Terrapins
Attendance & Absences
Attending school every day is important for your child to get the most out of their education.
We realize some absences are for health or other reasons. But when students are absent 2 or more days a month (or 18 days over the school year) they can fall far behind in what they learn. Excused and unexcused absences both mean missing classroom learning time. Absences can add up. Missing just two days every month puts students at risk of falling behind.
Some Attendance Tips:
- Make sure your students keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
- Turn off all electronics including TVs, phones and tablets at bedtime.
- Make sure clothes and pack backpacks are ready the night before.
- Check with our school nurse or office staff if you are not sure about when to keep your child at home due to illness.
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor's appointments when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your student feel anxious about going to school.
- Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your student to school.
When returning to school after an absence, a student must bring a note with the following information:
· Reason for the absence
· The date of the absence
· Student’s name, parent’s signature & the teacher’s name.
The note must be received within 3 days of the absence, otherwise, the absence is counted as unexcused. Please give absence notes directly to your child’s teacher. Acceptable reasons for student absences include the following: personal illness, medical appointment, family illness, court note, and official note for observance of religious holy days.
If a student misses more than 5 consecutive days due to illness, a medical note must be received before the student can return to school.
Temporary absences (being checked out of school during the school day) resulting in a treatment by a health care professional (doctor/dental appointments) are excused if student begins classes, and/or returns to class on the same day with a doctor’s not.
Campus Volunteers & Lunch Visitors
To volunteer in CCISD schools, you must complete an on online application. Completing the application permits CCISD to conduct a criminal background check prior to clearing an individual to serve on a CCISD campus.
*THE BACKGROUND CHECK IS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL AND RESULTS WILL BE PROCESSED THROUGH THE CCISD SAFE & SECURE SCHOOLS DEPARTMENT.
We will be continuing to use the online sign up for lunch visitors. The district has shared that we will not have lunch visitors until September 5th to allow us to get our students used to cafeteria routines. You should be able to start signing up to visit for lunch at the beginning of September.
- Any visitor must be registered as an authorized contact for the child. If the visitor is not noted in Skyward Family Access as a contact or authorized lunch visitor, he or she will not be allowed to have lunch. Please take this time to check your contacts in Skyward Family Access.
- Parents will have a designated area to have lunch with their children. As previously, other students will need to remain with their classmates in the cafeteria.
- Your child's teacher will share lunch times with you.
