Coloma Junior High
Family Newsletter for the Week of 12/11/23
Go Green!!
Our students with no missing assignments were celebrated this week with a Christmas Treat! Nearly half of our student body qualified for the reward. This is quite the feat as we are close to the end of the marking period. Congratulations!
Preparing for the End of Semester
At the end of the semester classes will have either an end of unit assessment, project or exam. Each class may be structured slightly differently based on content, grade level and academic appropriateness. We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about what the end of the semester might look like for each of their classes. They can begin to prepare now by reviewing material, ensuring that all of their practice assignments have been submitted and staying focused in class.
Next Mackinac Payment Due
For students attending the trip to Mackinac Island in May, the next payment of $100 is due on Dec. 13th. Payments should be submitted to Mrs. Churchill.

Academic Support
In an effort to support our students and provide more opportunities for growth, I would like to offer my help for an Academic Support/Assistance group during lunch hours a few days a week in the library. To keep track of those interested and those that actually attend, I will create a daily announcement as well as a sign up sheet in the office. Space will be limited to 10-15 students each day. Any students that have a lunch detention or are assigned a working lunch by another teacher will not eligible to attend.
Building a Positive School Culture
Each week our students continue to work toward building a positive school culture through classroom discussions and activities focused on grade level specific topics. Students will be finishing up their unit on Bullying and Harassment and moving on to Decision Making next week. This week our grade levels will continue their discussions as listed below:
- 6th Grade - Students will be able to apply their knowledge from the unit to promote awareness about bullying prevention at school.
- 7th Grade - Students will discuss how to be able to:
- Describe their rights and responsibilities regarding harassment
- Describe the consequences of engaging in harassment to their peers
- 8th Grade - Students will be able to apply their knowledge from the unit to create a plan for disrupting factors that contribute to bullying and harassment at school.
