Career Day is fast approaching (March 10th) and we are in need of professionals like you to present. Please see the information below to sign up.
Please remember that the kids do not have school this Thursday, Friday and this coming Monday. As the teachers will be busy learning, planning, and working together, hopefully everyone will have the opportunity to rest and get refueled for the next few months.
Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Sincerely,
Principal Kellner

Library Reading challenges are meant to encourage independent reading. Allowing students to choose their own books for independent reading is a great start to improving a child’s love of reading. There are many ways to grow reading excitement, but giving students a choice in reading material and how they want to share their reading are great first steps. This challenge is mostly for intrinsic gratification for reading. However, if students want to share their completed log with me in the library in November and again in December, they are welcome to receive a reading bracelet or “fancy bookmark” to acknowledge their efforts.
Have fun!

Dear Parents,
Our new health TEKS ask that parents work with their child to create a fire escape plan for the family in case of an emergency. Students can make their own or you can work together.
Keep it at home on the refrigerator for everyone to refer to, do not return it to PE.
- Decide on two ways to exit your home in case one is blocked by a fire.
- Choose a safe place away from the house to meet.
- Do not reenter the house.
- Call 911 and let the fire department rescue pets and help any family members.
5th Grade Parents - Fifth Grade students have a health assignment in PE to Research and Evaluate a health product and answer the worksheet questions about physical activity and nutritional choices. If they finish their classroom work they will have an opportunity to begin this activity. There are only 7 questions and they can turn it into PE the next time they attend and share it with the class if they wish.

Upcoming Health TEKS
Happy New Year BCE Families.
Help your child win a sticker in PE by completing the “Media and Health Worksheet''. When students watch T.V. or on the internet, how does the media affect their choices? If students complete the worksheet questions with their parents (only the questions for their grade level) and share the information in class, they win a waterproof decal for their water bottles. The worksheet will be available in P.E. class and/or the parents can print and use the worksheet from this newsletter
Our upcoming P.E. TEKS require Teachers to discuss how different media agents can influence our food choices, health and activity. For example, If I see a new cereal during Saturday morning cartoons and I ask mom to buy it for me. Is it a healthy choice? If I saw a commercial about biking and I got a new bike for Christmas, explain how you spend more time outside exercising. The worksheet is attached for you to print or pick up from PE.
Thank you,
Coach Daniels

LUNCH INFORMATION
If you are coming to eat with your child, only your child can join you for lunch. Also, when having lunch with your child, the stage is reserved for parents visiting.
Kindergarten.......10:15 to 10:45
1st Grade............11:30 to 12:00
2nd Grade...........12:05 to 12:35
3rd Grade............10:55 to 11:25
4th Grade............12:40 to 1:10
5th Grade..............1:15 to 1:45
Please visit the Bee Cave website to access the district’s Food and Nutrition (FANS) website to add money to your child’s lunch account, view your child’s purchases, access the daily menu, and to set restrictions for your child’s lunch. It is not permissible for the cafeteria and school staff to restrict your child’s purchases. Please take the time to review the FANS site and establish your child’s lunch account. It is suggested that all students have an account with a few days credit on it in case lunches or money are misplaced or forgotten.
We are still running one lunch line, so if you can send your child with a lunch that can give your child more time to eat. However, please know that your child can stay in the cafeteria to finish eating after the lunch is over if they need to.

A MakerSpace is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that all students have the opportunity to engage in learning experiences that allow them to make real life connections. For example, within this makerspace our students will have the freedom to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build and collaborate. Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker and develop something that may not have been possible to create without a space with resources.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact Melanie Cravey @ craveym@ltisdschools.org and click the following link below to volunteer.
Links for student sign up for maker space will be shared once volunteers have signed up to facilitate the classes.

CAMPUS SECURITY
Safety and security is our top priority. We believe relationships are critical to successful schools, and ultimately, our families and students are the best partners in keeping our campuses safe. Our principals and school administrators investigate every reported tip or threat. We work with law enforcement and take quick and appropriate action, including notifying families, if there is a valid danger on campus.
We ask all of our families and students to please share any information regarding school or student safety by either directly contacting a school staff member or by using the Cavs Who Care Tip Line, our anonymous alert system. As LTISD grows, we will continue to explore and collaborate with other school districts to find new ways to improve safety and security at our campuses.
Standard Response Protocol
A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the classroom response to an incident at school. Weather events, fire, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by students, teachers, staff and administration.
LTISD is expanding its safety program to include the Standard Response Protocol. The SRP is based on these five actions: Lockout, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold. In the event of an emergency, the action and appropriate direction will be announced on the PA system.
Students and staff will be trained and the school will practice these drills over the course of the school year.
..........................................................................................................
Absences
Consistent school attendance is critical for the development of your child. When they miss school, we miss them! The entire school day is needed to deliver the full instructional program. Students need to come to school and attend the full day unless they have fever, a communicable disease, or family emergency. Help us communicate the importance of daily attendance to your child and schedule necessary appointments around school hours. When an absence is necessary, report the absence using Smart Tag. For questions regarding attendance concerns, please e-mail our Registrar, Irena Veliaots, at veliaotsi@ltisdschools.org. A note explaining any absence is required upon the student’s return to school.
