Boyd Beacon
Fall Edition
Principal's Message
The school year is zooming by. It is hard to believe it is already second quarter.
This year we will be sharing our newsletter, the Boyd Beacon, electronically. We are excited to share a more in-depth look of the happenings at Boyd.
We have lots of fun school events in the upcoming months. Be sure to mark your calendar with these important dates.
It was a pleasure seeing our families back inside our school during Parent-Teacher Conferences. You have been missed!
We look forward to another quarter of learning and laughter.
Sincerely,
Briana McLeod-Larsen

Fall Festival
On Friday, October 29, 2021 at 2:15PM, Boyd students in grades kindergarten through fifth will participate in the Fall Festival Celebration.
Students may bring costumes. Be sure students can dress in their costume independently and the costumes are not too scary. No weapons or elaborate make up are allowed.
Although parents and guardians are kindly asked not to join students in the parade, they may observe the parade from the following vantage points.
1. along 85th Street to Templeton on the West side of the street,
2. along Templeton on the North side of the street,
3. along 83rd Street on the East side of the street, or
4. around Boyd's outdoor basketball court.
Feel welcome to bring your lawn chair.
Thank you for supporting all Boyd students as they proudly share their costumes in the parade.
Alternative activities will be planned for students who do not participate in the Fall Festival Celebration. Please inform your child's teacher if you prefer your child participates in an alternative activity.
MAP Growth Testing in OPS
What is the MAP Growth Assessment?
- MAP Growth assessments are online, computerized tests that adapt to each individual student and his/her ability.
- The MAP Growth Assessment for both reading and mathematics is administered in grades K - 5. Also, the MAP Growth science assessment will be administered to students in grades 3 - 5. The MAP Growth Assessment will be administered in the fall, winter, and spring.
- The MAP Growth Assessments allow for monitoring student growth and informing instructional and programming decisions. In addition, the MAP Growth Assessment fulfills the state requirement of administering a norm-referenced test.
