Math Updates:
We are more than half way through September and math instruction is off to a great start! Intermediate teachers spent our collaborative planning meetings looking at the upcoming standards and formative assessments and aligning quality instruction for their students! We dove into the strategies and identified tools to use with all students and how to differentiate when needed! Looking forward to meeting with the primary teachers next week! Thank you for all of your hard work!
Reading Updates:
Thank you to Primary for participating in some great first Collaborative Planning sessions! You also came up with some great "look-fors" for each literacy block. This week we will be planning with Intermediate.
Social & Emotional Updates:
We will be doing social-emotional walkthroughs this week. Please check for all of your posted materials and use your consequences charts. Keep building relationships and learning about your students.
Continue to focus on your routines. Our students have moved out of the honeymoon phase. Follow your Consequences Chart and stay the course..

Equity Walk-Through Feedback
- Dr Hughes from the Office of Equity conducted a walk-through earlier this week. He provided helpful and reflective feedback. The feedback is below..
- Our building has a positive feel. Students are happy, positive and learning is taking place for all students.
- Consider having illustrations of kids that reflect students of color. For example, when you purchase displays, posters or other classroom decorations, consider students of color that reflect your classroom and our student body. Additionally, don't forget students with disabilities, and displays that don't show career bias. For example, look for illustrations with female doctors, male doctors, women engineers and people of color working in non sports or entertainment careers.
- Mission Statements should be posted and in front of the classroom. Students should sign or have a hand print. The Mission Statement should be reviewed every morning and class should be stopped if the Mission needs to be reviewed.
- Post Celebrations in your room. Birthdays and student performance should be celebrated. Many of our students will never have a birthday party.
- Celebrate your college. Have flags and other items that celebrate your college pride. Have conversations about college in your classroom, if you don't, some of our kids won't.
- Post Student work all over.. post more student work, post work all over your room and celebrate your kids..
- Reading and Math Rotations must have a HBCU ( Historical Black College) as an option for a group. Yes, this is Rodney request... More details to follow on another email. A full list is provided, you can focus on the colleges in the DMV ((Delaware/DC/Maryland/Virginia)
