This year WSHS adopted over 100 local elementary students to provide gifts for this holiday season. This initiative is one of Woodbridge's favorite and most beloved traditions. The SALC Philanthropy committee organized the operation this year led by seniors Ryan Kelly, Anastaciya Wheeler, Rachael Rueb and junior Eva Kemal. Additional gifts can be brought to the front office c/o Cortney Bristow and Mike Viola. All gifts need to be brand new. Clothing sizes for age 5-11 are needed. The deadline for collection is 12/6!
WSHS Amplified is a student created website, that is run by our SALC program at the school. On this website, students, teachers, parents, and anyone from the Viking community will have the chance to let their voices be heard by submitting ideas, comments, and concerns that they believe should be discussed. Also on the Amplified website, the community can find links to the class of 2017's web-based documentary series, Behind 2017 (see the video below), newsletters from all the grade levels, and the new student-led podcast, Under the Bridge! Under the Bridge consists of two hosts that discuss school announcements, and it occasionally features commentary from the staff and students of Woodbridge.
News from the Class of 2017
Behind 2017 Season 2 will air on YouTube on the 17th of each month at 20:17 (8:17 p.m.) The season premiere is December 17th. For more information on the student council, please visit wshsamplified.com.
This past August, the finance team of 2017 created the first ever ceiling tile fundraiser in school history to help offset the cost of the tremendous senior lounge renovation. Businesses, students, and clubs purchased ceiling tiles as advertising space that were then decorated by 2017 artists with the help of Mrs. Felice Kite! The tiles range from Colby's Ride to Pineapple Paint and other organizations; the Finance team is still looking to sell more tiles to help support the class' projects, contact treasurer Muhammad Amjad (wshs2017treasurer@gmail.com) for more info!
Library News
Team Library has been busy helping students create individual Office 365 logins for all students. The generic logins for all computers has gone away, so it is important for everyone to remember and use their logins.
It is the “Year of the Book!” The newly genrified fiction section has been well received, and we welcome you to come visit to find a good book according to your interests. Feel free to ask a librarian for some tips when you come. Team Library has enjoyed visiting some English classes to share book talks and book trailers. We look forward to helping you make your own book trailers soon. In November we created a book display to honor our veterans of the armed forces and we celebrated Native American heritage with a display of fiction and nonfiction books featuring past and present stories of Native Americans.
The Viking Book Club just started our first book entitled, I Will Always Write Back. It isn’t too late to join us. Stop by to check out the book and sign up for our meeting reminders. Our club is a mix of interested staff members and students. We will meet in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss our thoughts about the story. This particular book is a true story about how a pen pal friendship between a girl in Pennsylvania and a boy in Zimbabwe becomes a bridge of opportunity and hope. We plan to start our own pen pals when you join us at our next meeting, December 13th.

So You're Eighteen
Seniors in 22 government classes participated in the "So You're Eighteen" presentation on November 16 and 17. The program is sponsored by the county and provides an opportunity to register to vote along with information and a pamphlet explaining both rights and responsibilities incurred at the age of eighteen. Mr. Winston Forrest, coordinator for Prince William County elections, conducted the registration the day after the voting results for Prince William County were finalized. The Prince William County Bar Association provided lawyers who presented the curriculum with sound advice to over 600 seniors in attendance. WSHS extends appreciation to Mr. Forrest, Ms. Alissa Hudson, Executive Director of the PWCBA and the following lawyers who volunteered their time; Steve Bamberger, Pat Folz, Scott Krein, John Primeau, Turkessa Rollins, Blake Woloson and Steve Woodside.
