Miss Black USA Talented Teen of Wisconsin

Our talented Lancer, Lilyana, was recently crowned Miss Black USA Talented Teen of Wisconsin. This process consisted of Lilyana submitting an essay and an application as well as being interviewed by the Miss Black USA judges in which she has been selected. Based on her academic and extracurricular achievements she was chosen to represent our state in this national competition.

Madison South Rotary Outstanding Scholar

Lancer, Nyenhial, was recognized in December by the Madison South Rotary as their Outstanding Scholar. Nyenhial was honored because of her dedication to academics, strong community service and extracurricular participation.

QuestBridge Finalist

LHS Lancer, Grace, has been named a finalist in the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship!! She will find out in December if she matches with one of QuestBridge’s highly selective partner colleges. More information about QuestBridge:…/national-college-match

Madison South Rotary Outstanding Scholar

Our Lancer, Jessica, was recognized by Madison South Rotary as one of their Outstanding Scholars!! This award recognizes strong academics and impressive community service and extracurricular involvement.

Global Youth Institute

Congratulations to our Lancer, Nyah, who was one of five high school students from Wisconsin who recently returned from the Global Youth Institute (GYI) in Des Moines, Iowa, where they participated as the state’s youth delegates. The institute, which took place Oct. 16-19 during the annual World Food Prize International Symposium, is an opportunity for high school students to gather together with peers, educators, researchers and policy makers from around the nation and the world to discuss challenges and solutions to world hunger and poverty. 2018-19 Lancer Honors

Downtown Kiwanis Scholarship

Our Lancers, Krystyn, Mariana, and Nicoll were honored at the Madison Club by the Downtown Kiwanis Club. These Lancers earned scholarships to help defray the cost of their continuing educational paths! We are so proud of them.

Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar

Our sophomore Lancer, Tziah, was selected to attend the Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar at the University of Michigan. Tziah will be focusing on learning about Reconceptualizing Black Geographies: The Politics of Race, Space, and Home! We are so proud that she has this amazing opportunity!

2019 Rotary Club of Madison Youth Awards

Congratulations to our Lancers who were recognized by the Rotary of Madison during their annual Youth Awards! We are extremely proud of all who worked hard to earn this distinction!

Arndt Family Scholarship

Lancer Saikou was awarded the Arndt Family Scholarship. This scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship for students who plan to attend UW-Madison. Saikou will be recognized at a reception honoring all the Arndt Scholars. Saikou was awarded the scholarship for his excellent academic achievement and commitment to his studies. Congratulations, Saikou!

Women In Focus Scholarship Winners

Our Lancers, Krystyn, Kayvion, and Justice were recognized at the Women in Focus "I Have a Dream" Scholarship Reception. These students were recognized for their academic achievement, community service, and leadership.

Madison South Rotary Outstanding Student

Lancer, Amie, was recognized on December 10 by the Madison South Rotary as their Outstanding Student. Madison South Rotary recognizes students for the academic dedication and leadership qualities. Congratulations, Amie!

NAACP Freedom Fund Leadership Award

Our Lancer, Lilyana, was a guest speaker at the NAACP Freedom Fund Annual Awards Banquet in Rockford, Illinois. Lilyana gave her speech, "Don’t Touch My Hair," in which she describes the challenges that African American women face with hair acceptance.

The NAACP presented her with a Leadership Award. She was among distinguished company, including, Marilyn Hite Ross. Ms. Ross is the first African American and first woman to serve as State’s Attorney in Winnebago County, Illinois. Congratulations, Lilyana! We are very proud of you!

American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation

The American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation has selected our Lancer, Lillian, to received a $2,500 scholarship. Congratulations! We are very proud!

Rotary Youth Awards

Congratulations to our many Lancers who were honored on May 9. Forty-nine MMSD students received Rotary certificates and cash awards recognizing their scholastic achievements and contributions to our Madison community! Way to go, Hanna, Jamie, Alyssa, Marichel, Megan, Jose, Remmi, Erin, Jenelle, and Miriam! Thanks for making our community a better place!

Women in Focus, Inc. Scholarship Recipients

Our Lancers Nathan, Jackie, and Jhanae received the Women Focus Scholarship. Each year, Women In Focus, Inc. awards scholarships to deserving college-bound students of color. Proceeds from the organization’s annual “I Have a Dream” Scholarship Banquet and Ball, as well as contributions from supporters are used in funding the awards.

Madison-Monona Lioness Healthcare Scholarship

LHS Students Genna and Jahdai were recently awarded the Madison-Monona Lioness Healthcare Scholarship. They will be recognized at a ceremony by the Lioness Club in June. This scholarship recognizes excellence in students who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.

Scholar-athletes Anthony, Tyra, and Josh were recently honored at LHS during an assembly as our La Follette High School Scholar-Athletes of the Year! They were recognized for their dedication to both academics and athletics. Congratulations!

Teacher Mikaela Hagen awarded Kohl Teacher Fellowship

We're very proud of Mikaela Hagen, LHS teacher, who has been recognized as a Kohl Teacher Fellows. The Kohl Teacher Fellowship program recognizes and supports teaching excellence and innovation in the State of Wisconsin.

Educators are selected for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others, and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom. Mikaela met with Herb Kohl to accept $12,000 in grants for our DLI program at LHS.

Friends of UnityPoint Health-Meriter Scholarship

Six La Follette students were named recipients of the 2018 Friends of UnityPoint Health-Meriter scholarship. Recipients include Aaliyah, Genna, Stacy, Peter, Lillian, and Jahdai are being honored for their commitment to healthcare, community and extracurricular involvement, and academic achievements. Each recipient earned $1,000. Students will be honored at a May 2, 2018 reception.
