Shabonee Library News!
Week of November 7th
Library Displays highlight some exciting books!
Our library is a very special place. There are so many books to read! Sometimes it can be overwhelming to make a choice about what book to choose.
The displays in the library might give students ideas for what to check out. The books within the displays will change throughout the year, usually monthly. Look at the photos below, to get a "taste" of our displays in the library!

The many emotions of emojis help us find the book we are just in the mood for!
Spooky books for Halloween
These books are popular year-round, but especially during the month of October!
Focus on Fairy Tales
With Liesl Shurtliff's recent author visit, students have been getting very excited about fairy tales!
3rd Grade Folklore Election
It's election season, and we are getting in the spirit by having our own literary election. This election involves choosing a "president" from the folklore genre. The "parties" in the folklore election include some of the sub-genres of folklore: the fairy tale party, the trickster tale party, and the tall tale party. We will be reading a story from each folklore category, and will analyze the character traits of each main character, with the goal to decide if that character is a good candidate for president. After reading the three stories, we will form the supportive parties, and create a campaign to try and convince others to elect that character for president. Finally, we will have a vote for our folklore president!

New First Reader Program!
We are always getting exciting new books in the library. As a way to make sure all students get a chance to see and get a "taste" of the books, books will be on display only for the first two weeks. During that time, students can put their name in for a drawing that will choose the "first reader" of each book. If a student is chosen for this, they will get to read the book first, and will write a short review for the book on a notecard. That notecard will then be pasted into the book, for other students to read, and will also help us remember who was the "first reader" of that library book.
