We have a 24 ft x 8ft blank wall outside of the theater that we have decided to fill with a beautiful mural to be painted by Cbabi Bayoc. If you are not familiar with Cbabi’s work, he is an amazing artist here in St. Louis that paints some of the most beautiful murals I have ever seen. He has painted murals in other Webster Groves schools including Steger, Clark, and Avery. He also completed a mural at Epworth over the summer, and he is currently working on a very cool project downtown at the old Greyhound station. We are very excited about this and can't wait to see how this mural brings this hallway to life! I included a picture of the wall below (that triangle will not be there)!
One of the best things about being principal of Hixson is learning the history of the school and the broader Webster Groves community. This history will serve as inspiration for our mural. Throughout my research, I've learned that Hixson opened as the Spartans in 1955. We have a long history of competitive sports including football, basketball, and track & field. Hixson's very first football season was in the fall of 1955, and we were undefeated! I learned this from a very cool scrapbook that we found in "the vault" in the front office. This book details Hixson's sports seasons from 1955 to 1970.
Currently, I am trying to compile memories, landmarks, patterns, places of interest, traditions, annual events etc that best represent Hixson Middle School and/or the broader Webster Groves community to serve as inspiration for the mural. I will send this to Cbabi by next Wednesday. If you think of something you'd like to share, please email it directly to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hixson will administer this test in math and English Language Arts (ELA) from September 22-25. The testing window closes on October 2 so that there is time for make ups. Math and ELA teachers will administer this test virtually to their students. They have reserved two class periods for math and two for ELA to complete the test. Your student will work on the test for the full 45 minutes for at least the first class period, which means you should expect your student to have less asynchronous time in math and ELA next week. Some students will need both class periods to complete the test, and some will not. Classroom teachers will tell students what to do if they finish early. Please feel free to reach out to administration if you have any questions about NWEA.

Hixson Middle School Book Drive!
Hixson Middle School is a community of readers. We would like to provide an opportunity for students to take a break from their screens by putting a book in their hands. We are partnering with The Novel Neighbor to reach this goal. If you are able to support us, please select from the list below to purchase a book for a middle schooler!
If you'd prefer to make a monetary donation instead of a book, you can do so at the bottom of this page. All book drive books will be delivered to Hixson by the Novel Neighbor. The checkout page will say "In-store pickup," but you do not have to do anything after you complete payment.

From the Library
Is your child interested in reading heartfelt novels? Are they looking for connections with other middle schoolers over shared experiences? Do they enjoy reading and talking about what they have read? If the answer to any of these questions is YES, please encourage them to contact Mrs. Tumminello or Mrs. Bodi about joining our after school book club Mirrors and Windows! We meet on Zoom on Thursdays, after school from 3:30-4:30.
Below is a link to the technology support ticket system we are utilizing to help give our learners and families the most efficient system to help us keep track of technology support requests.
