Woods Lake Elementary

Weekly Update April 19-23, 2021

Hello Woods Lake Family,

Monday, April 19, 2021, is our virtual April PTO meeting beginning at 5:15 p.m. via zoom. We look forward to seeing you there!

Earth Day Every Day at Woods Lake Elementary is this week on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 5:00-6:00 p.m. We are inviting our Woods Lake families in grades K-2 to come to the parking lot located off of Whites Road to receive your child's plant and Earth Day Every Day Woods Lake Elementary T-Shirt!

We ask that you place your plant in your home or plant it in your yard. Be sure to take a picture of your child wearing their T-Shirt and placing/planting their plant. As we continue to raise awareness about climate and global warming, our students' increased understanding of our earth and environment are important principles of nature. Thanks for your help!

We are still in need of pictures of your child from the shoulders up. Pictures and questions can be sent to WoodsLakePTO@gmail.com ASAP.

As always, Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!

Micole D. Dyson, Ph.D.

Principal

How To Become The Boss Of Your Emotions

  1. Recognize what emotions you are feeling and name it. Instead of saying “I am angry”, recognize the emotion is impermanent and not “you”.

  2. Focus on where you feel the emotion in your body. If you notice yourself tensing up, release the tension in your body as you breathe out. Think of the emotion as a cloud passing through the sky: there one minute, gone the next.

Love yourself through it. Say something good to yourself, such as “ it’s okay to be angry sometimes. Keep doing this until the emotion passes. Being the boss of your emotions isn’t about bullying them into submission, it’s about relating to them with kindness.

(KKIT) Kalamazoo Kids In Tune

Here is the latest episode of Some Good News: KKIT Edition. A monthly YouTube News Report where we share all of the amazing things going on at KKIT. This month we reported on Family February and interviewed a mom and son about their experience. We had 25 families participate (the highest yet!) and 30 families join us for our Virtual Game Night. It was such a hit - we're going to plan another one in the Spring.

Kalamazoo Communities in Schools (KCIS)

Woods Lake CIS ASP soon will be accepting Think Summer applications from students that are currently in our program. Due to capacity, we will not be able to accept new-to-program applicants.

A friendly reminder that CIS is available for a variety of needs. Our Kid’s Closet offers basic needs resources such as clothing, hygiene, and school supplies. CIS is also available to assist with vision needs for your student if necessary. Tutoring help is unfortunately limited, but please reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding your student.
