We are continuing to celebrate reading all month long at Milnes. We had many VIP Readers this week and are looking forward to many more throughout the month. Thank you to all of our VIP Readers for coming to Milnes and reading to our students. Please see the pictures below.
We are really enjoying reading Beverly Cleary's The Mouse and the Motorcycle as a whole school. We have one chapter left! There is no scheduled reading over the weekend. We will continue to read on Monday night. We are looking forward to learning all about Ralph and the ending of the story.

Read-a-Thon Week Two Results
REACH Trimester 3 Programs
Kindergarten and Grade 1 Small Group Programs:
This is a Type 3 REACH Program offering. Identified students will meet weekly for further work focusing on the higher level thinking skills introduced during the PETS program push-in. Students are challenged with a variety of advanced activities that deepen the students' ability to use convergent, divergent, evaluative and visual/spatial thinking.
Grade 3 Independent Study - STEM Exploration into Rube Goldberg Machines:
This is a Type 2 REACH Program offering. This self-select program is for interested, task committed and highly motivated students. Students will research and construct the six simple machines. Then, students will use the Engineering Design Process along with their knowledge of simple machines to plan, build and test their very own Rube Goldberg Machine.
Grade 3 Math Seminar:
This is a Type 3 REACH Program offering. Identified students will meet weekly to solve problems involving an awareness of finding unknowns, understanding how patterns affect outcomes, developing spatial relations, and applying logic. Students will also learn about some of the early Greek mathematicians and philosophers.
Grade 4 Math Seminar:
This is a Type 3 REACH Program offering. Identified students will meet weekly to analyze place value in ancient number systems, including the Base 10 number system. Students will also explore technology applications as an extension of number system languages.

Reporting Student Absences
Kindly enter all absences, late arrivals and early releases as follows:
· Using the Genesis Parent Portal (Attendance Tab): Select date(s), time(s), reason for absence. Using the “Notes” section, please indicate additional pertinent information (i.e. Travel, Dr. Appt., Illness, etc.).
· Call the Attendance line: (201-794-5550, Option #2). Please leave your child’s name, teacher, reason for absence and date(s)/time(s).
Both are available 24/7 and will record your child's absence and report it to your child’s teacher as well. As teachers and staff can be absent and our email servers can be disabled and inaccessible at times, we ask that you refrain from using email to report. Using the above-mentioned sources will ensure that the main office and covering teacher(s) (subs./special area) receive the attendance in a timely manner.
