Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
August 26, 2018
What a busy and productive first full week of school!
The halls, cafeteria, and classrooms were abuzz with discussions on what students are learning and what type of homework and projects they are already anticipating. On top of that, students seemed excited to finally be receiving their new HP devices. It became a ripple effect of excitement as each class level received their device. A huge thanks to Mrs. Houk and Miss Gallagher as they spearheaded the distribution and were there all four nights coordinating the distribution and training provided by Microsoft Woodfield. There were also several Staffulty members that volunteered to work one of the nights and we couldn't have done it without you! We realize that teachers had to wait patiently for all of their students to have their devices so they could implement various activities and expectations, but we are finally full steam ahead!
What an absolutely wonderful way to open our new school year. The Mass of the Holy Spirit was not only a poignant way to begin our year, but we really got to know Father Twenty and hear some of his great stories that relate directly to the message he was conveying! And if Father comes up to you and says, "Rejoice..." you ought not forget what your response should be!
Thank you to Mrs. Loy as she facilitated all of the grade level Class Chats this past Friday. Remember that it is the responsibility of EVERY Staff member to enforcement of school-wide expectations like phones, dress code/grooming, drinks & food in classes, and overall behavior. Working together and being consistent will ultimately help everyone and then Administration will have your back.
Please also do not forget to submit your Google Classroom or One Note class codes on this form. We have about 2/3 of your codes thus far.
Finally, please make sure that Ms. Novy receives links to your lesson plans or UBDs. Please do not assume that she knows where they are, but instead drop an email for the link if you have not already. Thank you.
Looking ahead...
There is so much to look forward to this week, where do we start?
This Tuesday is a noon dismissal day so please adjust your plans accordingly. After students dismiss, there will be lunch provided in the cafeteria, and then technology PD on One Note will be provided by Microsoft Woodfield promptly at 12:20 pm, so please bring your computers to the training. We are aware that many faculty members are at varying skill levels so we will be providing break out sessions that will meet you where you where you are.
Back to School Night is this Tuesday as well! Teachers, please be present by 7:00 pm (part time teachers please be present at least 1/2 hour before your first class) and stay through the evening as parents walk through their students' schedules and find out what their students will learn and what the classroom expectations are in each of their students' courses. Please be prepared to engage with the parents for each 10 minute session and if you have plan time, please be available in the halls to assist parents in finding their way around the school.
Well, clubs are certainly full steam ahead... Key Club is making blankets for the needed on 8-29... if you have any spare material or scissors, please donate or go help out! They are also sponsoring their first boxed/canned food drive... donations accepted at the gate for our first home football game this Friday, so you can help the needed and cheer on everybody's favorite team! If your club or organization is doing something great and would like it shared with the Staffulty, please let me know via email.
Senior Teachers: When writing lesson plans, pleas be aware of the Senior College Info Session this Thursday during period 2 in the auditorium. Please make sure you take your attendance before going down to the auditorium.
Finally, Mrs. Loy and Ms. Novy will be sending emails out to all teachers by the end of the week to notify them about whether you will be evaluated this year or not and by whom. If you do not get an email by end of day Friday, please contact Ms. Novy.
Have a great week!

TECHNOLOGY CORNER
Please refer to the 18-19 Technology Guide for most of the information needed for log-ins, Wi-Fi, printers, saving files, and more!
We apologize for the technical difficulties that caused us to not be able to show the SAMR Model video. Please find 4 minutes to review it so you are a little more familiar with the model as a way for Marian to step-out the integration of technology into everything we do. In addition, if you are looking for some ideas as your PLC is thinking of goals for integrating, please check out the Examples for the Classroom.
Student Printing
The "official" policy is for students printing here at school is that they will NOT be able to print from their individual devices at school. They are able to print at home if they connect with a wireless printer. If you want to allow them to print in the library desktops, that is up to you, however we should try to discourage any printing from the students unless absolutely necessary.
