7th Grade GSS Weekly Update
Week of 2/10-2/14
Classroom Happenings
Preserving History: Please check in with your student on the progress of this assignment. Simply stated, some students are way behind because they don’t use class time in useful ways. There are also some students who have said they may need an extension because they will get part of their information after the due date. If they are planning this with us ahead of time, that won’t be any problem. This document has the information needed to approve the extension.
Black History Month: Last Friday and Monday, we watched “Awakenings,” the first episode of the PBS Civil Rights documentary series Eyes on the Prize. The episode focused on the murder of Emmett Till and the Montgomery Bus Boycott which showed us some of the discrimination African Americans faced and the Jim Crow laws that made that discrimination legal. Social change begins with a need, and students some of the reasons that led to the Civil Rights Movement.
Contact: As always, let me know if you have questions about class or concerns I should be aware of. The easiest way to reach me is by email.
Upcoming Due Dates
Preserving History: Final projects are due on Friday 2/21.
