Ms. Cameron
School Counselor 2021~22
Dear Chatfield Families,
ABOUT ME: I'm originally a Midwestern girl and have lived in Colorado for the last 14 years. My husband is a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at GMMS and we have four children. I love traveling, being in the sun hiking or paddle boarding, chocolate, and thunderstorms. Although school counseling is both rewarding and exhausting, it's my dream job and wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
About the School Counseling Program
Chatfield's school counseling program consists of three main areas: classroom lessons (K-5th grades), a variety of small groups, and individual counseling.
CLASSROOM LESSONS: All students receive school counseling lessons twice per month. Lessons typically focus on social-emotional learning in areas of self-awareness, social-awareness, self-management, social management, career readiness, and personal safety. *Every child interacts with the school counselor at some level throughout the year.
SMALL GROUPS: All groups take place at school during school hours, and I facilitate between 10-30 small groups each school year. Parent permission is required.
*If you are interested in your child participating and/or learning more about different options for small groups, please contact me directly or complete a School Counseling Request Form (located on the school counseling website).
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING: Counseling sessions in a school setting are typically short-term and focus on student-led objectives that help your child reach their academic goals, such as building confident peer relations and/or practicing healthy coping strategies. Parent Permission is Required. School counselors do not provide in-depth counseling, so if you feel your child needs more mental health services, I will gladly assist you in finding available resources here in our community.
*If you are interested in your child receiving counseling, please contact me directly or complete a School Counseling Request Form (located on the school counseling website).
OTHER: I also spend time collaborating with teachers and families, supporting students experiencing difficult emotions, assisting mediation in situations of conflict, responding to unexpected crises, and advocating for the needs of all children. Overall, I will help your child have a great school year in any way I can! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to getting to know you and your student better!
