IAHPERD UPDATE

September 2015

Summer Highlights from the President

It's been a very busy summer for the IAHPERD board. We kicked off the summer with our annual IOWA AHPERD convention held this year in Oskaloosa, IA. We had a great turnout and fabulous speakers.
After convention at the end of June, President-elect, Ben Robison and Co-ED, Jan Grenko traveled to LDC in North Carolina for a few days of leadership meetings with other President-Elects and ED's from around the country.
Then July came along and President Jennifer, President-Elect Ben and Co-Ed's Jan and Jen traveled to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for the annual Central District Shearer Leadership Summit. We came back from the summit with LOTS of actions plans for the coming year.

Here are a few of our goals:
1) Create an Ad Hoc committee to pursue moving forward to get the National Standards adopted in the state of Iowa.
2) Create membership incentives for our members
3) IAHPERD will send a letter to the school district principals thanking them for allowing their Physical Education/Health teacher to attend convention.
4) Attend the SAI and State school board conferences with an IAHPERD booth.
5) IAHPERD will identify state coordinators for LMAS. Requesting 1 or 2 people to fill this position.

Over this past year I have really enjoyed my time serving as president of IOWA AHPERD. It's been an honor and a privilege to serve our state at the local convention, central district convention and national SHAPE America convention. Please feel free to contact me ANYTIME about anything as I would love to hear from you. My term officially ends October 31, 2015.

WE WANT and NEED YOU INVOLVED! We have lot of fun committee's that won't require travel or big meetings on your part. We often use video chats to connect so we don't have to travel.
