What's Happening at Log
Incredibly, 2021 is rapidly coming to a close, with a mere 14 days remaining. While, the year may be winding down, we are in full swing at Log College! The past few weeks have been quite busy with Girls Basketball in the midst of their season, FCS class has been active making cookies (with cookie cutters created by our STEM class), the Nature Club got creative, and the Sewing and Design Club had a huge turnout for its first meeting. For the first time in two years, our instrumental and vocal ensembles got to perform live for a packed auditorium at William Tennent High School. Below are pictures that highlight all of the aforementioned events and activities.
The Log College community has also be hard at work with our philanthropic efforts, including facilitating a food drive, coat and clothing drive, Toys 4 Tots Collection, and also contributions in advance of the holidays for many Centennial families. Thank you to all families, students, and staff who have donated to help those in need in our community!
Finally, the faculty, staff, and administration of Log College would like to wish you all a happy holiday season and a safe, happy, and healthy New Year. We hope 2022 brings you health, happiness, and peace.

From the School Nurse
Parents, we need your help to keep our students safe and healthy!
Please remember to check your student for the COVID 5 every morning before they come to school.
- Did your child have a temperature this morning of or above 100.3?
- Do they have an altered taste or smell?
- Were they exposed to anyone with a lab-confirmed case of Covid 19?
- Do they have an unexplained cough or shortness of breath?
- Are they awaiting results of a Covid 19 test?
*If any of the above are YES please keep your child home from school, contact attendance.
* If your child has a pending test please do not send them to school until you have the results. Please send the results to LC attendance or the school nurse (curtan@centennialsd.org).
Please continue to send in completed Physical & Dental Forms.
All students in Grade 6 need a physical examination, this should include the required immunizations for 7th grade (Tdap & Meningococcal). The physical examination form needs to be completed by your child’s doctor and returned to the school nurse.
Students in Grade 7 need a dental examination. The dental examination form needs to be completed by your child’s dentist and returned to the school nurse.
Forms are available on our website or in the nurse's office.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school nurse at 215-441-6075 x14025
Thank you for your ongoing support, as we strive to keep the children of LCMS safe and healthy!
Athletic Eligibility
Our fall athletics season is underway, and with that, the school runs weekly eligibility reports on all athletes participating on our teams. Students playing for Log College must be passing all of their classes in order to participate in practices and games during any given week. In addition to academic eligibility, students must meet attendance and behavioral guidelines for continued participation in PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) sports. PIAA, which is the governing body of school sports in the Commonwealth, encourages the ideal of the ‘student athlete,’ which we wholeheartedly support at Log College. If you have any specific questions regarding eligibility or sports, please contact Mr. Swartwood, Athletic Director, or Mr. Drago, Assistant Principal.
Inclement Weather Procedures
As the weather in Pennsylvania becomes increasingly unpredictable, the need to close school or modify schedules in response to weather conditions often arises. We ask that you please stay tuned to local news outlets, Centennial SD's social media accounts, and Log College's social media accounts for updates on delays, early dismissals, and cancellations. Alerts will be sent out via phone and text messages from the district, and eAlerts from Dr. Bedden. In the event of a two hour delay, three hour delay, or virtual day, those schedules will be communicated out by Mr. Golderer for Log College.
Attendance Procedures
Attendance letters are automatically generated by the Skyward student management system on a weekly basis, based on student attendance reports. As we move through the year, the number of attendance letters generated increases a good deal. There are currently four types of letters generated weekly:
- 3-days of Illegal Absences
- 4-days of Illegal Absences
- 6-days of Illegal Absences
- 10 days of Cumulative Absences
Illegal absences simply mean that there is no accompanying parent note or doctor's note to excuse the absence. All absences default to illegal in Skyward until a note is received by our attendance office.
The three-day letter is considered a "warning" letter. After the four-day threshold is met, our school social worker will contact families to set up a SAIP (Student Attendance Improvement Plan) Meeting, where the absences are discussed and a plan to improve attendance is created. Once the six-day threshold is reached, other measures can be taken, as a student is considered "habitually truant" under the law. These COULD include fines in district magisterial court, Children and Youth involvement, or attendance diversion programs.
The 10-day letter is a cumulative letter meaning it counts both legal and illegal absences are counted. Once a 10-day letter has been generated, a 'licensed practitioner of the healing arts' must provide a note. That can include a doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner, etc.
Absence notes must be turned in within three (3) days of your child's return to school. Absences will remain unexcused until notes or turned in or if the three day window is exceeded. Absence excuse notes can also be emailed to Log College at the following address: lcattendance@centennialsd.org
For family trips during the school year, a Family Trip Request Form must be submitted to the Principal at least three (3) days prior to your trip. All requests submitted less than three (3) days prior will be denied.
