True Love Defies All Odds

Hermia and Lysander's Love Mix Tape

Theme: True Love always Wins In The End

Throughout Midsummer's Night Dream, the playwright, William Shakespeare, has many examples of true love conquering all odds. Whether it's an opposing party, or magic, true love always persists through it.
Magic Rude - Lyrics

track one: "RUde" by MAGIC!

Hermia's father opposes of Lysander and Hermia's love, and even goes to Theseus to warn her. They give her the choice of being a nun or marrying Demitrius, which she doesn't want. This song can be interpreted from the point of view of Lysander, because he wants to marry Hermia, and Hermia wants to marry him, but her dad opposes it. In the play, he goes on to talk about Hermia having to become a nun or marry Demitrius. But, in the song it just talks about the boy's point of view.

"Can I have your daughter for the rest of my life? Say yes, say yes 'cause I need to know, You say I'll never get your blessing 'til the day I die, Tough luck, my friend, but the answer is "No" "

All Time Low - Break Your Little Heart

track two: "break your little heart" by All time low

This song is what Hermia would be like toward Demitrius.

"I'm gonna break your little heart, Show you to the door, Sew yourself shut, now you're begging for more, 'Cause there's nothing surgery can do, When I break your little heart in two"

Hermia really doesn't like Demitrius, but he still follows her around. So, she always trys to reject him, because she loves Lysander. If this happened to me, I would be mad, and want to break his heart in two. She really doesn't like him, although her father does. I think this a perfect way to describe her feelings towards Demitrius.

Janis Martin - Let's Elope Baby

track three: "Let's Elope Baby" by Janis Martin

When Hermia's father opposes of their marriage, Hermia and Lysander decide to elope, like this song suggests.

"...Let's elope, honey, paw's asleep, maw is too, Let's elope, baby, the preacher's awaiting, and my heart is true..."

These lyrics sum up what Hermia and Lysander were thinking when they made their plan to elope. When they were going to get married, Hermia's father was talking to Theseus, and Lysander's parents didn't know. They didn't have a preacher to marry them, but they were going to Lysander's aunt's house to live. Overall, this song is all about eloping, and that's all that matters!

One Direction - Night Changes (Audio)

track four: "Night Changes" by One Direction

"We're only getting older baby, And I’ve been thinking about you lately, Does it ever drive you crazy, Just how fast the night changes, Everything that you’ve ever dreamed of, Disappearing when you wake up, But there’s nothing to be afraid of, Even when the night changes, It will never change me and you"

Hermia and Lysander rest while, magic changes the path of their love. This song fits really well because all that Hermia's ever dreamed of is disappearing when she wakes up. It's kind of Ironic because it says it will never change me and you, and what's changing is Lysander's love. But, in the end, we all realize that their love never really did change. :)

Pink - Please Don't Leave Me (Original HD) + Letra

track five: "Please don't leave me" by P!nk

When I listen to this song, it seems almost like Lysander and Hermia were having a conversation. When Lysander was trying to make Hermia go away, it seems like he would say the first few lyrics in the song.

"I don't know if I can yell any louder, How many time I've kicked you outta here?, Or said something insulting?"

Then, the next part is about not leaving her, not how he's made her act out of character, which Lysander was definitely doing.

"When my heart is broken, Da da da, da da, Please don't leave me, Please don't leave me, I always say how I don't need you, But it's always gonna come right back to this, Please, don't leave me, How did I become so obnoxious?, What is it with you that makes me act like this?, I've never been this nasty"

This song is about the two sides of one person, but if you think about it like Lysander and Hermia, it all fits.

A Great Big World - "Say Something"

track six: "Say something" by A great big world

This song represents the feeling that Hermia feels walking through the woods by herself.

"Say something, I'm giving up on you, I'll be the one, if you want me to, Anywhere, I would've followed you, Say something, I'm giving up on you, I am feeling so different now, Perhaps, I was in over my head, But, I know a lot more now, Where are you at now?"

The song describes knowing a lot more now, and wondering where you are now, which Hermia says before she falls asleep, she wonders is he is safe. The song also describes that anywhere, I would've followed you, which shows how much Hermia loved Lysander.

John Mayer - Who You Love (Audio) ft. Katy Perry

track seven: "who you love" by john mayer feat. katy perry

After Lysander has no magic impacting who he loves, he comes back to Hermia. They are in love again, and Hermia embraces it as a weird dream. She loves Lysander a lot and they get back together.

"Oh, you can't make yourself stop dreaming, Who you're dreaming of, If it's who you love, Then it's who you love."

Once they get back together again, they get married, and it seems almost like the magic flower never happened. This song means to accept who you love, and that's exactly what they were doing.

Count On Me - Bruno Mars Lyrics

track eight: "Count on me" by bruno Mars

This song represents Hermia and Helena's friendship at the end. They are really good friends. Although there are times when they fight, they are still best friends in the end, like this song symbolizes.

"You can count on me, like 1 2 3, I'll be there, And I know if I need it, I can count on you, like 4 3 2, You'll be there, 'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah"

Hermia and Helena go from hating to loving each other in a short period of time. This is just what good friends do, and they have many precious memories together. In the end, they become good friends again.

train - Marry Me[HQ][FREE DOWNLOAD]

track nine: "MArry me" by train

This song is what Lysander and Hermia feel towards each other when they are going to be married alongside Theseus and Hippolyta.

"Forever can never be long enough for me, To feel like I've had long enough with you, Forget the world now, we won't let them see, But there's one thing left to do"

The song describes how forever won't be enough, and that's what they were feeling before they were going to get married. Theseus says that Hermia's father doesn't get a say in true love. This shows how true love conquers all. It's happy that they get married in the end.

Enchanted Soundtrack - Ever Ever After [HQ]

track ten: "ever ever after" by Carrie Underwood

Ever Ever After is a happy song about a happy ending, like the ending in the play. It shows how true love gets through it all, and and a happy ending to the people in love. It also tells you to believe in true love. It commemorates true love, and happy endings, which the ending of the book shows as well.

"No wonder your heart feels it's flying, Your head feels it's spinning, Each happy ending's a brand new beginning, Let yourself be enchanted, you just might break through"
