SMOKETREE ELEMENTARY
Cougar Country- December 2022
Winter is finally here!
Kindness and Compassion Club A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the clothing drive. The response was so overwhelming, we needed to get extra boxes to fit all the items. Congratulations to 1st and 4th grades for turning in the most donations. Both grade levels will be receiving an ice cream party. Great job everyone! | Title 1 reading program fun fact Letters and sounds- Letter-sound knowledge is essential for both phonic decoding and sight-word learning. For example, fluently understanding alphabet letters names and sounds. Also, automatic reading of tricky words. Phonic decoding- Early phonological awareness skills enable the development of letter-sound knowledge and should be targeted for direct instruction through 1st grade. Orthographic mapping- Understanding this allows for teachers and families to support students who struggle to read. It's the process that occurs when unfamiliar words become automatic sight words. | PTSO Another busy and fun month here in Cougar Country. Family Craft Night- Join us on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 22 5:00pm to 6:30pm for crafts and goodies. We will have the holiday store open again this year! Starting the week of 12-12-2022. We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to help us with these events. Please reach out to Sherry Kortan at (928)727-4959 . |

Our little cub house This month our cubs will be busy focusing on the fives senses of December, fun with cooking (yummy), and holidays around the world. Enjoy! | A note from Nurse Carmin Please have your child(ren) bring a jacket for the cooler weather. It is a good idea to put your child's name on the tag of the jacket, in case it gets misplaced. The cold and flu season is here so please help them practice good handwashing and covering their coughs. Any student that has a fever of 100.0 or higher will be sent home for a 24 hour period. Students may return to school when they are fever free and unaided by medication. Thank you. | Student Council Notes This month the student council has come up with a week of fun to get into the holiday spirit. We can't wait to see everyone in their holiday finest!
